I hate being right. Back in May, James Sikes of "Crazy Prius Acceleration" fame bought himself a Nissan Cube to replace his 2nd Gen Prius. You know, the one engineers couldn't find anything wrong with? As soon as I heard that Mr. Sikes had purchased the Cube, I issued a warning to all Nissan Cube owners to watch out for their resale value.
I hope some of them listened to me, because it appears that Nissan has just been "Sikes'd". Not even 6 months after Sikes' purchase, Nissan has announced a recall covering over 2.14 million vehicles worldwide. A problem has been found in the ignition relay on the Cube and over a dozen of Nissan's other models. The failure of the relay causes the engine to stall and the driver cannot restart the car.
No word on whether or not the problem was uncovered by a desperate man on a San Diego highway.
