There have been many threads on here ranting about the Nav in general and the inaccuracy of the ETA in particular.

I agree that the Nav is no match for a Garmin and the manual is difficult to read and understand, but I find it very functional once time is taken to adjust the settings to match your driving style.

I set a trip this weekend to my granddaughter's birthday party. The route calculation was 244 miles and ETA 3 hours 30 minutes. The first half of the trip is 75 mph and the second half is 70 mph. I arrived in 3 hours and 34 minutes after about a 5 minute restroom stop. Close enough for me :)

I had a two segment drive coming back and both segments were just as accurate.

So, if set up correctly it can perform satisfactorily.

I too find that the 2010 navigation system works very well and I have no problems with ETA as I make sure that the system is set up with correct parameters. That is not to say that anybody with issues have not done the same, perhaps the map data for different regions has something to do with it, but my experience up and down the west coast and southwestern states has been excellent.

This is the first time I purchased a car with NAV and I also have good experiences with it. It may not be the best NAV out there but it gets the job done.

I also own a portable navigation. Although it also took me where I wanted to go, when it's not in use, I had to stow it away to prevent break-in. Secondly, I seldom need direction and my portable device typically requires recharging before I can use it because it couldn't power by itself. That means "no guidance" until it's recharged.

Only grumble I have with the Prius NAV is the cost of updating the map - when it becomes a necessity to do so.

The fact that the Nav is built-in is another nice feature. No external devices to have to hide away to prevent break-ins and theft.

I agree that the cost of the map updates is much higher than it needs to be. I have found that I only have the need to update the map about every 3 years. My car came with 2008 and there were enough new streets and highways by 2011 to warrant an upgrade. I suspect that there may be enough changes to entice me change again when the 2014 versions come out in the fall.

Driving Speeds that I use are 25/45/70. That puts me pretty close to Google maps ETA.

Cost of updates? Agreed. Torrent saves.

I use driving speeds of 25/55/75. I will adjust the 75 to 70 at times depending on the trip and the highway speeds.

For anyone unhappy with the cost to update the maps on the 2010 navigation dvds, I bought the 13.1 update on eBay for $14.95. Works great. Definitely better than the $199 that Toyota charges for it.

2012 IV with HDD radio with Nav. Can you get the update and install on a USB stick and update the maps?

    Thanks!

Did you buy from "incrediblebooks" ? I use eBay a lot, but would likely avoid a purchase without an item-specific photo. But, if you've already done it & had a successful result, I would do it. Thanks for sharing!

Yeah, that is the seller I used. It works perfectly and the disc shipped really quickly, I had it on my hands in 4 days.

My baby doesn't support DVD. If there's a USB version I may consider updating my map. I had situations where my NAV is showing I'm driving off-road. :(
