Anyone has done this. I want one on my car. I saw some units on ebay that goes for about $130-ish. And another member here by the name, 06D, who sells it too.

question: Is it a hard DIY project?
Do I have to buy specific camera and the kit? What do you guys recommend? thx

I viewed the camera kits on ebay, but then ended up buying one from a vendor on Amazon.

I used this video as a guideline:

The video is pretty accurate and complete enough. The silicone spray really helps with stuffing the wires through the rubber boot on the hatch, and the nylon tools (the guy is using them int he video) are a good thing to invest in.

P.S. I just re-read the title of your post. My experience is for a Gen III Prius.

That youtube.com video makes it look like you can do it in half an hour. It took me several hours, because I was being very meticulous. Overall, I'd say it's a fairly easy thing to do. It's just a bit laborious routing all the wires.

I got the camera kit from ebay and hire local shop to do it for me. They quoted for 2 hours. Base on the youtube video, it should be a doable job if you are handy around the car

    mypolardog98,
Check the Audio and Electronics section. There is a sticky thread that shows/explains how to put in a rear view camera on a 2012 prius and have the picture display on the HU. Chang50012's kit is great for a plug and play solution
(or if you want a shop to do the work). If you don't mind doing some soldering, running wires, etc, you can buy the pieces and put together your own kit.

Thanks guys. I think I might venture and buy the kit from say, Amazon. $150 sounds about right?

Will this work with the radios that don't have the navigation?

    My car doesn't have navigation.
    The description just says "
2012-2013 Toyota Models with 6.1" Screen." I think you're fine if you meet that requirement.

    Dylan Doxey,
Does the amazon kit have a 3.3 or a 6.5V camera ? I've been going nuts trying to find this thread so I could as this question. If it is a 6.5V
camera, I think I'll add a link to it in the sticky thread. Chang50012's ebay kit came with a 6.5V camera that
eliminated the need for the voltage regulator.

If you get the 6.5 v camera then that's more or less all you need. Save your $150 and get the $40 eBay camera and if need be the $7 voltage regulator.
