My biggest complaint about the Toyota's is the placement of park... Why is it a button that is set aside from the rest of the drive modes? I would love a mod that would add the p to the gearshift.

My take on the PARK button is that is basically the CAR IMOBILIZER button for the car. The button deactivates ALL possible DRIVE or REVERSE motion of the car.

In the accelerations emergencies of the 2009 and 2010 era, the driver, as a CREATURE OF HABIT pushed the START-STOP button in an attempt to stop the car. The better option would have been to push the PARK button.
That would have definitely immobilized the car. I WILL THEREFORE "REMEMBER" THE PARK BUTTON FOR EMERGENCY USE.

Bad-but-previously-established UI patterns combined to form compromised current UI patterns.

    Some photos...

Push the tip of your thumb to the top left for REVERSE.

Push the index finger tip to the bottom left of DRIVE.

Pull the knob down with the tip of your index finger for the BRAKE mode.

    Can't be easier and simpler.

Well, I don't really like it. The OP's "joystick" knob.
Being red, it just reminds me of a Clowns Nose. You add a flower that squirts water and you just made your flying buttress into Ringling Brothers.

But seriously...to each their own. You like? Go with it. I've seen worse.

It also kind of scares me how many people are professing that operation of the shift selector is too difficult without having the letters on the knob.

Really? There's relatively brightly lit shift indicator on the dash, that's pretty much what I look at to confirm whatever selection I have made...I don't think I've ever looked at the knob to "know" what selection I've made.

I have to say, if you can't handle input selection without the letters RNDand B on the knob, then perhaps you shouldn't be on the road. You don't put stickers on the floor pedals....G for gas...B for Brake...some things you are just expected to learn and know. Clown nose aside, you do this act without a net.

I think having the input letters on the shifter is "nice" but if it is an operational necessity? Just don't drive too close to me.

What file format is your file? I believe the website only accepts jpg, and who knows if anything else.

You can try changing the file name to xxx.jpg and try uploading again.

The file uploads are working NOW. Other's have noted errors as well. It appears that the PriusChat site wasn't allowing uploads for a couple of days.

I thought it was a tad odd, but being a computer person, the separate visual confirmation wasn't really offputting to me, and now it's second nature. My mom who's a senior found the transition more irritating, but after driving a rental Prius for a week, she seems to have adjusted to it more or less as well.

I'm glad the letters are on the knob for reference. I drove tractor trailers for a long time, and I've spent forever driving and preferring stick shift cars, so I think I'm a pretty competent driver, but a month into Prius driving, the little bouncy joystick knob thingy isn't quite intuitive for me yet. I still tend to stomp for a clutch and grab for a shifter. I do still need to check the shifter sometimes to know what I'm doing. Even though there is a digital display, it's also unfamiliar to me and therefore not intuitive for me yet. It's like learning how to drive all over again, or rather changing very old driving habits. I'm sure I could function without the visual reference and figure out what to do, but I absolutely find the visual reference useful. Yay for redundant lettering! I like that they take into account new (or "new") drivers.

Now I'm laughing at me. Electric windows and locks are still not intuitive for me, either. It takes me a minute to find the window "crank," and I still reach behind the front seats to lock and unlock the back doors. It is probably a very good thing my shifter has a visual guide.:ROFLMAO:
