Wheel bearings going bad at 67K?

    Gen 3 is easier to do than Gen 2. The Gen 3 hub falls apart after the 4 retaining bolts are removed. Remember to mark the backing plate position so you can refit it the correct way. Only use Genuine Toyota bearings the aftermarket ones are crap and do not last. At least you guys pay a good price for them A geniune bearing hub for a gen 3 cost $600.00 AUD here

    Is a front wheel bearing something covered under extended warranty?
    How about half shaft?

    Can't you just buy a good quality Timkin or GMB bearing and press it on your self? I have done it a bunch of times on Mazdas and Hondas. That is how you have to change those. You can get just the bearing for 20 bucks on line.

    having to replace the whole hub is common -- not just Toyota ....especially FWD.

    They don't normally fail -- maybe a problem with the design.

    Most FWD cars you just press the bearing out of the steering
    knuckel. Toyota and GM have a hub that bolts to the knuckel.
    The hub assembly is 300 bucks, if you don't have a press this is ideal.
    I think I'll try the bearing. Anyone have a worn out hub I can experiment with?

    Lost my front wb at 30K. Classic wup wup over 40. It was replaced under 3/30.

    Just checked with my father (which is a mechanic) and the left front wheel bearing needs to be replaced.

    Of course we are planning to replace it ourselve. Any tip for doing it? We already saw that we need a 32mm star box.

    Need to replace the passenger side rear bearing along w both both rear rotors-should I do the driver's side rear bearing at the same time or just wait? I have a 2010 w 65k miles.

    If they aren't noisy just re-pack them.

    Same sound like the OP describes, front left wheel has a little play, only 40k miles, out of warranty :(

    Will investigate how much it will cost me, probably more than €300 only for the parts.

    Just got quoted 430 EUR from two different Toyota dealers, I also asked a generic shop and they said that non Toyota part does not exist and they were worried about replacing "you know regenerative braking", they could just said it in the first place that they don't want to bother with this car ...

    In the meantime I found the cheapest replacement on German ebay (I'm looking only in EU because of import duties and long shipment):

    I ordered and installed the bearing from the previous link, the change it self was obviously very easy costing me only €30 at the local mechanic.

    The bearing it self is manufactured by Koyo just like the OEM part.

    Saved €230.
