They were forced to smash his windows?

I'd have thought they'd have rammed it out of the way with their fire engine and then sent him the bill for repair.

I sure hope his insurance company laughs at him when he tries to file a claim.

Of course, this is reminiscent of the scene from the 1991 film Backdraft., where the same exact scenario plays out. However, in the movie the car is a Mercedes.

Punishing wealthy individuals who believe they are above the law is an appealing event, when it happens.

I do hope they used the leakiest hose on the truck to run through the interior.

That I find as deplorable as saying 'punishing poor individuals who believe they are above the law...'

Any individual that breaks a law has to deal with the consequences. I don't care if they are rich, poor or in between.

The guy with the BMW should have had the fire hydrant moved, like John Kerry did. ;)

this came after a deadly fire a few weeks ago in another part of the city, started by a welder operating without a permit, and no fire extinguisher at hand. i think the fire department, other officials and the public are all getting a bit fed up with people who are not considering the consequences of their selfish actions.

Every time it snows, I have to tell my one neighbor to not pile snow in front of the hydrant. He finally got the hint when the snow would wind up back in his driveway.

It also happened in a Bill Murray movie in which they are bank robbers trying to get out of the city to their '70s land yacht beater.

The difference between a rich person ignoring the law and a poor one is........
The rich guy thinks he can BUY his way out of anything; the poor sap is under no such delusion.

It is refreshing to see anybody who thinks they are above the law get what is coming to them.
What is deplorable is that the rich guy often DOES get to plunk down a wad of cash and walk away.

Easy Rider; The Golden Rule always applies.

The man with the gold rules. Having more money means less consequences.

The rest of us are ruled and are basically, wage and debt slaves.

    No, the windows are quicker.
As long as she paid for the whole project, I don't see any problem. Many other people of similarly high influence, but lower means, would have unethically attempted to make the water district and it ratepayers pay the cost.

The insurance company usually doesn't have to cover the claim if the owner is breaking the law at the time. Even if they do cover the loss (including the big honkin dent) I'm sure that they will up the creep's rates, or drop them outright.

    Concur.
I actually thought of this forum when I saw the story. I knew some achievement hater would giggle at the fact that it was a BMW and wondered what the reaction would have been if it were a Prius. :)I'm glad that the firefighters had some stress relief, and that it made a big splash in the news. Maybe it will keep some idiot (rich or poor) from parking in front of a hydrant.

Nobody mentioned the homes that may have been lost or the life's at risk.

Weighing that vs someone that inconsiderately parked their car the choice is obvious.
