Of the possible major part repairs in a Prius, the transmission is probably the least desirable. I'm impressed how calmly OP is handling this. Good start for a DIY repair :)

Good luck. I'm looking forward to updates.

good idea Patrick, finally made it down to the dealer and cajoled the parts guy into looking at the transmission parts breakdown. The stator is not available, but the whole assembly is available for less than $1500. This is consistent with the way the spares for the Gen I were provisioned.

You can find the transmission really cheap online at car-parts.com just put in your location, I would think they are under $300.

the issue I have with a used transmission is that almost all of them have more miles on them than mine. There is a significant chance that any given transmission has a damaged MG2 stator. See up-thread as an example. I'm weighing my options.

The used transmissions are usually pulled from working wrecks. But it's a risk you have to weigh, the cost difference is quite significant.
