    Didn't replace just added....
    Dodge Viper
    Silverado
Plug in is my ticket into the carpool lane and it's my first appliance on wheels. Everyone who knows me says it must be the sign of the apocalypse.

hmm, one of these things is not like the other... !

I think more and more we'll see more of these mixed families. I suggest a bumper sticker for your PiP :
"yeah, but my other car is a Viper"

Gen II ACR, likely the only car I'll never sell. Love the Tesla, drove my buds brand new one last week. Tesla understands the gear head as well as the AMG/M crowd. This purchase was a numbers game to buy myself into the carpool lane. My wife and I love performance cars, but we both decided to cool it with the car deal for a bit. Even with the fuel savings this car doesn't really make sense vs. my truck , however when you factor in time and reduced stress on the road it makes sense.

Can you please explain this statement. Although I do understand how it saves you time.

Sure, in a nut shell, my truck is paid off and when you factor in the cost of acquiring the plug in with registration and insurance it's throwing money away. Gas would have to hit about $8 /gal for me to break even at this point. It does however reduce the total miles driven on my truck which is a good thing. I won't introduce qualitative factors like which vehicle I prefer to drive.

True enough. You are basically trading money for time...which is ironic since we all do the opposite to make a living.

So it sounds like you are saying that the money issue is definitely secondary, because if the money did matter that much you would just sell your truck and/or other car.

Funny isn't it, although I'd say more accurately, I'm reducing stress. In the end though, your right it's like a circular argument....... Time, paycheck, bills, stress....... :)

On a slightly different tack; Although the concept seems aimed primarily at the eco-conscious, it also appeals to cheap b*st*rds like myself who love to save a buck at the gas station.

I think the Prius also has a special appeal for the techies among us; those of us who get as much satisfaction in owning an advanced piece of technology, as from helping save the environment or saving tons of gasoline. Toyota has done a wonderful job of making the hybrid system as transparent as possible to the every-day driver, hiding many of the advanced featured behind simplified displays. But as these forums will attest, the techies do love to tinker, and I think this car is a tinkerer's dream. Unfortunately that also makes it a manufacturers nightmare, as the last thing they want is for anyone to be poking around high-tension batteries, inverters, and complex systems. But it will happen, and in my opinion, Toyota would have more to gain by opening up a limited channel for safe after-market customizations and third-party add-ons, instead of clamping down on any modifications under the threat of voiding the warranty. As it stands, there's not much you can do with a Prius that doesn't somehow run afoul of Toyota's warranty restrictions.

Did you hear news about Chrysler destroying hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of Gen I vintage Dodge Vipers? These were preproductions models donated to universities for educational purposes.

Despite all the disclaimers, it will still cost money to defend frivolous lawsuits not to mention a tarnished public image.

The risk of litigation is too great for what I assume is a small segment of Prius owners who want to tinker.

When risk management devolves into simple risk avoidance, it's not risk "management" anymore.

I did a two for one swap... Traded in a 5 year old Yaris and an 11 year old piece of junk Dodge Dakota that was literally falling apart. They gave me over $9,000 for the two vehicles! These days:

Maintenance is way to expensive approx 800 every other month on repairs etc (not including basic wear and tear)

I heard that about Kia, but is it also the same for Hyundai? I know they have partially merged into one company.

But what about that 100,000 mile warranty of Hyundai's ("The Best Warranty in the Business!")??? $800 every two months in maintenance/repairs on a car putatively in warranty?

I drove the car conservatively; each time I went in for an oil change (over 75k) it would require major maintenance or repairs. I thought it was the dealer pulling one over me but I went to another dealer much further away who I was good friends with the manager (since childhood). He said to me the first 50k the car is excellent but once you start getting closer to 100k maintenance becomes very expensive and wear and tear tends to be more dramatic the older it gets. I also know why their resale value is not very good with high mileage cars.
