With the 100 miles a day they could save 420 a month on gas by driving a prius that is 18mpg vs 50 mpg and $4 gas. that one seems simple. I don't think it's only the larg SUV, I had a 99 suburban 4x4 got 15 in town and 18 hwy, some of the newer ones do better. that is about the same as many small ones. and I currently have a subary legacy and it gets 16-17 in town. that is only a little better than that great big v8 suburban. So I think that most of the cars out there really get about 20 mpg if you check them at the pump. There are lots of people that don't realize they are using so much fuel. some people are kind of stuck, if they need to be able to pull a trailer or boat and only want one car then the suburban isn't a bad choice. compaired to other cars that can tow. the extra cost of having two cars is often more than the extra gas. just depends how far you drive. how much the payment, parking, and insurance is.

I thought that the economic stimulus was going to help build alternative energy. I whish that every new house had a solar roof, and that type of stuff. instead we just throw cash to companys that are not doing well so they can waste the money of over paid elite class of administration.

Drill here....Drill now. Why keep making other nations rich at our expense!?! Why not keep that money here.....Sometime people make no sense... Thinking environmental vehicles save the planet, they don't, these vehicles pollute just as much as 100% gas/diesel vehicles.

Do you know how non environmentally friendly and toxic your hybrid battery is? Hybrids still releases carbon dioxide..
And plug in all electric vehicles still pollute your plugin the vehicle in to a electrical power station a coal burning power plant. Yeah I see the environmental logic there.

Before you get your panties in a bunch. I drive a Prius....

And that's the extreme view. More economical vehicles use less fuel, that's a good thing. Hybrids and BEVs use chemicals which are nasty but can have other uses and be recycled if required. Once petrol or diesel is burnt, it is gone forever.

And not everywhere uses dirty coal to provide electricity. I guess nations with 95% hydro or renewable are ideal places for a BEV. Personally my plan is to replace the Prius with a BEV, maybe an old(er) Leaf and will power it from a home PV system that I hope to install. I also use a 100% renewable electricity provider. Is that all perfect? No far from it, but is it better than driving a 5 litre V8 that gets 20 mpg, polluting the air of the town I live in and polluting the environment in Nigeria or similar? In that case yes a BEV is better.

Oh crap its the batteries again. Same old ridiculous argument that I have heard since 2003. Shouldn't you be on YouTube telling everyone how bad the Prius is for the environment and it's just a fad?

You forgot to say a Hummer is more environmentally friendly.

And a Prius is a ULEV.

Yeah drill here drill now as long as its not in your backyard.

How about you tell us. Just how toxic is nickel and why do they use large quantities of it in so many other things like coins and cookware?

The nickel used in Prius batteries is a tiny percent of the overall global usage, and probably more than any other application it will get close to 100% recycled. This is thanks to both high nickel prices and Toyota's bounty on buying back used failed batteries. So please do explain it to us.

Extreme view alright. There's not a viewpoint that isn't extreme with his crowd.
What chemicals do hybrids use that other cars don't? The batteries which are recycled? Over here just about 100% of all auto's are recycled. Junkyards are paying top dollar for junk cars. $350 here.

And yeah burnt petrol is gone alright...right into the atmosphere.

I think you folk's are misunderstanding my post.. I never said a hummer was environmentally friendly. Look I said I drive a Prius. Not to save the planet for gas mileage. The Prius impacts the environment same as a gas/diesel vehicle. Might be less don't give me the green crap...Nothing is green we trade on environmental disaster for another..

Yes...Drill here....Drill now. Why keep making other nations rich at our expense!?! Why not keep that money here...

Hydro power plants= building large dams and reservoirs often involves displacing people and wildlife. (very environmentally friendly....)

Natural gas plant=the burning of natural gas produces nitrogen oxides and carbon dioxide...(still polluteing)

No more extreme than your view. "Everyone should drive a eco, vehicle" Forcing others to do as you see fit is called
    " Fascism"

The trees, the animals, and the environment. Keep plugin that leaf in and burning fossil fuel.

Let me guess you don't like Starbucks either.

    Spare me.

Please show me where I said "everyone should drive a eco vehicle"? Forcing them to drive a Prius?
You must have a huge nice person 'cause you like pulling all your thoughts out of it.

I just responded to your claim that and I quote again:
"these vehicles pollute as much as 100%gas/diesel"
The Prius is a ULEV vehicle. It's got an official Designation of its zero emissions.
And you didn't say what chemicals this car is using that other cars don't. I'm sure that will never happen as you really don't have the slightest idea what your talking about.

Your right about that. Your party specializes in one disaster after another.

I have a "big nice person".. That's funny right there. ULEV still pollutes. A Prius uses the same chemicals as any other vehicle.

I'm no progressive, aka liberal.. Sir!!

I'm not a super fan of fracking. BUT... we have a lot of natural resources. To say we don't have a lot of oil is sort of outdated thinking. They just found a ton of it, its actually a resource of ours and unless we do drill for it we will have progressively less say in world wide security since countries depend on energy.

Also I have a Prius, its been a great car. HOWEVER, our Range Rover actually was tested to put out less CO2 than the Prius.

The answer isn't to use less gas its to require carbon scrubbers.

I had an emissions test done in DE. The prius showed some CO2 the my Range Rover had 0 parts CO2 similar results for carbon monoxide. What model year are you looking at. Also Land Rover carbon offsets.

You didn't deal with the fact if you are serious about greenhouse gases you need to require CO2 scrubbers on cars and trucks.

    Post your emissions test.

By the way, the Delaware DMV website says that the only test performed on 1996+ cars is an OBDII check for fault codes.
