Personally I'd never block the upper, since inverter rad is behind there. Lower I block 100% as long as temps are at or under freezing. When temps start climbing I remove 50%. And any time I'm using AC for cooling, I do not want any blocking.

    Maybe a typo??

I also drive I-95 here in Florida on my commutes. I have a 2010 Prius IV with the stock 15" wheels and OEM Yokohama Avid S33s running 44 psi. Average temps when I drive in the morning are in the mid to high 50's. At a constant 70 mph, I see around 50 mpg give or take a few 1/10ths. It is a pretty reasonable speed if you stay in the right lane. Depending on road incline and wind, I've even been able to bump up to 72 mph and maintain 50 mpg. Drafting at a reasonable distance can see 50 mpg even at speeds around 75 mph. It just depends on weather and the condition of the road. Parts of Jax are kind of rough and I've seen as low as mid 40's at 65-70 mph due to cracks and groves in the road.

Torque seems to get a lot of attention. From what I can tell they have not produced an IPhone version. Does anyone have suggestions for one of the iphone variants that would be as good?

Yes the E model does show temp and RPM etc I have that model ... but I would not recommend since it lacks of the really cool feature Xgauge !!! and only shows 2 things at the time. If I knew the difference, I would not have saved the $50.

But certainly easier to use and setup.

If you are comfortable at 80F there's no reason to set the climate control at 75F. There isn't one perfect or set temp. Some days I run the car cooler, some days warmer.

High inverter coolant temps are between rare and uncommon here even fully blocked. Just pulling a number out of the air as an example, if 100F were "high" or "a concern" then how do you justify driving the car when the outside air temp is that high?

Everyone is different. Do as you feel best.

Probably going to bet the 2015 prius will have active grill shutters. Seems several cars have gotten them in 2014.

I am sure you could work a trade with someone, their 15"s for your 17"s.

I would get something to monitor inverter and coolant temp and experiment with lower grill blocking.

I think a great way to do grill blocking would be to buy a Grillcraft lower billet grill and cover it with vinyl or even a magnetic sheet.

Here is a steady state MPG for a Third Gen with the 17 inch wheels.

Yea, get an android tablet. Seriously, they are dirt cheap these days, like $80 for a 7" tablet. Doesn't need to be fancy or have ultra long battery life. A single core processor is fine for running 1 app.

If anyone has Sprint, they often give a free tablet and all you need is to add a $5/month data plan. Right now they are doing a free Tab 3 for signing onto the Framily plan. I am thinking about doing that and using the Tab with Torque. I just need to decide on a OBDII scanner to use.

I, too, have both a new 2014 Prius and an old ScangaugeII™--but, alas, they're NOT (yet) connected! Why? Because I have no idea which Prius parameters to look at.

So-o-o-o-o, what recommendations do you have for a Prius-newbie? What info (probably all via X-Gauge?) should I be trying to monitor and observe?

Thanks! ...and, I see that NONE require X-Gauge programming...excellent!

Just ONE final question: Does invoking the 'HYBRID' setting truly ensure that the SGII™ won't "stay ON" and thus discharge the 12VDC battery?

Not Hybrid, I believe it's NO COMM, as opposed to 0 RPM for Sleep Event.

Even then, it's recommended that you wait and watch the SG to make sure it powers down after shutting down your Prius.

Hm-m-m, now that is a command that I am not familiar with; is it something in the newest Version release?
