    Well maybe not.

I would really like to hear from someone who has actually used one to jump a dead battery.
While it might work for a hybrid that doesn't need THAT much to kick off the control systems, I'm betting it will be pretty much useless on a car with a conventional starter.

"this little device produces a 12 Volt output at a peak of 300 amps. "
Even if you actually believe that, which I don't, given its stated 6 amp hour capacity, it could supply 300 amps for about 1.1 seconds.....and then probably would melt into a heap.

And finally, this appears to be a brand new company.
    I wish you luck.

While a 50C discharge rate is not good for the reliability of a LiPo battery, the actual calculation would be 1.1 minutes (not seconds), but then it would not quite pull that off due to heating issues. I will consider purchasing two of these to replace the 2 UPS batteries on my electric skateboard (a fun filled Engineering project by my freshman a couple of years ago).

But remember, WE ARE in a Prius related website and it's applications. For other heavy uses, I would't mind to exclude as a solution, even as an emergency.

Interesting product, should work great on the Prius. If I did not already have a portable jump start pack, I would buy one of these. Yeah, I know mine is big and bulky unlike the "JUMPR", but if I go out of town I simply put it in the back end along with all the other goodies.

I am sure someone will say but this is smaller, lighter and what have you. Yes, I agree with all of that. But for now I will stick with the product I have already spent my money on. Social Security and Disability does limit what I can do with my money.

Cool product though. I will bookmark it and maybe buy one later on to stick in the Prius. I like the fact it can be recharged off of the USB port also. Or at least I think it can be charged that way.

    Thanks for the heads up!

This is a lot of BS to say it could jump start a Prius!

Be ok if it can recharge both an iPhone and iPad that requires more current than the phone. With the early discount and coupon the price is roughly in line with a half decent portable battery pack for those devices.

I only shared the link because it seemed like a neat idea to include the cable with 12v alligator clips and a possibility to be able to jump our Prii in an emergency. There, I can only hpe the gadget would work if called upon.

I bought a big battery booster box, which I've never used, in 2009 after reading reports here about 12v batts failing after the car was parked somewhere unused for as little as 1-2 weeks as I recall now. Having a knee operation that kept me out of action for a longer period, thought having the booster around might be handy that fall. It is big and heavy, but also has a 120v outlet, so I thought it could be handy for the house or something. Even has a radio, flashlight and a couple of usb outlets. Again, never used it. Too heavy and big to keep in the car anyways.

This little jumper thing though is small enough and light enough to leave in the car. I will certainly use it the odd time to recharge my iPhone when hanging out at a coffee shop where somehow I've let the charge get too low when it was kept pocketed. It seemed also possible, that this little device could in fact have just enough juice to start the Prius if I had sit in it listening to music while the family shopped and the car was not in ready mode. In certain conditions it can be that in as little as 20 minutes or so of accessory only use that you could run into an issue. One of the members here with a PIP ran into that recently.

Never had it happen to me in nearly 5 years with the Prius now, but I applaud the idea, took the plunge and hope it works if ever needed. Just thought others here might see it also as a useful thing to keep handy given that most of us have cell phones at least that could be charged with this gadget at a minimum.

It is a new product they say, won't ship until May or so, but the company seems to have other products out there. Obviously I cannot tell you with certainty that it works at all, and gave the heads up because there is a discount for early orders atm.

OK, let's see if I did the math wrong:
6 amp hours is 6 amps for one hour OR 1 amp for 6 hours; that part is easy.
    300 divided by 6 is 50.
60 minutes divided by 50 is......well, damn, it appears that you are right. :)

You don't REALLY believe that little bitty thing can actually give up 300 amps for more than a flash though, do you......really ?? Even if the cells themselves would produce that much, the inter-cell connections would act very much like a fuse at that current load.

Most of the claims are pure marketing hype. I even wonder about the 6 amp hour rating.
I really doubt that it would produce 6 amps for more than a couple of minutes.
One amp for 6 hours; sure maybe.

And while it might appear to be enough to jump a 12 V on a hybrid, remember that the dead battery itself will sap off a good amount of current as it tries to re-charge.

I just ain't buying any of it.

This is easily believable especially for jumping a hybrid. This is high C Lithium Polymer battery. Tenergy makes 50C LiPo cells with burst of 70C. Reconfigure the cells and you can easily make a 12V battery pack with 600 to even 1000 amp continuous discharge rate. Recharging it would take a while though because high C charger is expensive.
Check out Batteries & Accessories>50~65C Discharge They have RC batteries with up to 130C burst. 2 of Turnigy nano-tech A-SPEC G2 5000mah 4S 65~130C Lipo Pack (US Warehouse) parallel will give you 650 amp continuous discharge and up to 1300 amp burst.

I jump started my dead Prius with an old DeWalt 12V NiCad battery with 14 AWG wire with 30 amp fuse. Surely a high C LiPo can easily handle the job.
