Trolling!? You have to be kidding me! LOL.....

What positive information are you providing to the average owner of a Prius? How to shorten the life of ones car? This car should never be used to tow any weight, its not designed for it. Anyone can mount a hitch to a car and hook up a trailer to it and sure you can drag that trailer around, and the car will do it, but that does not eliminate the stress you are adding to every part on the car and the safety risk you put yourself in and everyone else on the road. Get real!

I towed a 4x8 U-haul trailer about 250 miles from NM to Colorado last month. Less than 1000 pounds of boxes.

I do understand were just pointing out the real hazards of doing this. Were part of the Prius family too I thought. The point here is to look out for one another when taking unnecessary risks. If I stop you because there was a sink hole up ahead in the road you would be very grateful. I'm just letting you know that if your in a major accident or you caused it you will be sued for everything you own for towing with a vehicle not designed for it and outlined in the Toyota manual. Whether it was your fault or not. Sorry to chime in on your fun forum. Please post again when your in an accident while towing!

Personally i wouldn't tow with a prius based on the design mechanics of the planetary gear setup with the 2 electric motors in the power split device, which is essentially the transmission of the car. Personally would have went with a diesel jetta or something like that. But hey, it's not my car so......

If i were to tow with the prius, i'd personally get the torklift ecohitch, which is a 2" hitch. It's $250, but i'd feel safer towing a travel trailer with that. Also, i wouldn't tow something as boxy shaped as your travel trailer, i'd buy a teardrop shaped trailer like the littleguy or campinn campers or i'd get something more rounded like a Scamp travel trailer.

I agree with most of what you say; A more aerodynamic style would be much better than a box style. Airstream or a Scamp style front end!!(y)
My problem was the weight:(; had to find something under 2,000 LBS and tongue less than 200 LBS. And my wife:eek: had to have a full restroom ..... very hard to find.
Please read post # 1; Thank You.:)

I'm not closed or small minded. Just because you want to bury your head in the sand and live in denial, rather than being realistic, doesn't mean other people are trolls, or small minded.

It's clear you don't understand the mechanics of the prius and the physics involved with pulling a travel trailer. I'm an engineer, and i've been rv'ing my whole life. There are quite a few things to take into consideration not just for the reliability of your vehicle, but also for the safety of you, your passengers and others on the road.

I'm just going to leave reliability out of it, it's your car, that's up to you.

But travel trailers are essential large boxes.
T@B S floorplan would work and be aerodynamic.

So here's the thing: We here at Priuschat have seen more than ten years of Prius modifications and customizations that we, personally, would never attempt. We've witnessed mature and responsible adults doing things with their personal property that we, personally, would never attempt with our own property.

    But we do not intervene.

We here at Priuschat take no responsibility for the way a Prius owner treats their Prius. At the same time, though we might point out that something might void a warranty (installation of a plug-in pack on a Prius c) or might be ill-advised (towing large campers) we NEVER criticize the individual. That's not acceptable at Priuschat.

Personally, in terms of ill-advised, I've seen Prii electronicly and mechanically hacked in ways that make towing seem like child's play. If wish to discuss towing things with your Prius, enjoy the thread. If you believe towing with a Prius if one of the great ills of the world and the downfall of civilization as we know it, go somewhere else.

    The T @ B S Style would be a good choice:cool:, and it comes with electric brakes.(n)
When you pull a heavy load with a Prius, you really need electric brakes on the trailer.:)
    Always SAFETY first!!:)

I purchased a Malone Microlight kayak trailer and we are planning to pull it with our 2014 Prius Plug In. Can anyone point me to instructions on how to wire the trailer harness? I have found a couple of trailer videos for older models and they are not as helpful as I'd like. Local trailer outfitters are refusing to wire my Prius as they say that can't find any wiring harness for the Prius (because I suppose Toyota doesn't endorse hauling anything with it). Thanks for any help!
