No one appreciates the info here more than I. It's helped me a lot and I appreciate the efforts of all who built this site. But the forum software upgrade is a total bust. It is the worst software I have ever seen on a forum anywhere in the world. It's blatant SCREAMING ADS totally destroy any possibility of enjoying the use of the site. If you don't have cookies enabled, if you don't have java enabled, if you don't have every fricking thing enabled that the software on this forum needs, the browsing experience sucks. On my android phone if I don't 'Sign In' the fricking "WELCOME TO OUR COMMUNITY" pop up reappears covering text no matter which page I go to, no matter what post I read. It is the most annoying, intrusive pop up I've ever encountered and normal pop up blockers don't seem to be effective for it. Viewers shouldn't have to work this hard. It is the posts of members who drive people to the site, not the Prius Shop or the Ads, it's the community not the artistic brilliance of this crappy forum software. For a lesson in effective forums go here: http://landroverforums.com/forum/

The Land Rover forum celebrates its participants unlike this site where it is clear that the owners of this forum are VERY VERY interested primarily in making MONEY off its participants. Nothing wrong with making money, no one should work for free and no one is trying to stop you folks from getting rich but whoever sold you this new software has their heads up their a** because what it DOES is ENCOURAGE people like me to go elsewhere for information, to think about starting a new forum, to make sure I never SPEND A RED CENT on this site to pay you back for making it so fricking tough to negotiate this site. And users who don't have this experience here please think twice about how you're browsing. This site won't even let you sign on unless you have cookies enabled which means the software is so hell bent on tracking your every move so the owners of this site can make money that it won't let you do anything if they can't track you. Please talk to your software developers and tell them we're trying to celebrate green cars and technology here not green money. Ban me from here if you want, but this is my opinion, albeit a strong one.

I have been on the web almost since it was invented. I design and maintain websites. I have no problems with the operation of this forum and I appreciate all the effort Danny has put in to keep the website up to date.

If you don't like it, vote with your feet. Make a better forum and I'm sure we'll flock to it.

Speaking for myself, I'm OK with the ads as long as they help to promote the site. It's a small price to pay for all the great benefits we get as users.

However, if my smell-meter detects greedy profit-taking as a motive for increasing the ad-intrusion, I'll do as others suggest and "vote with my feet" so-to-speak.

Don't like the ads? Use an ad blocker.

Don't like the log-in nag? Sign in and check the box to stay signed in.

Not all cookies are tracking cookies. What evidence do you have to suggest that PC uses tracking cookies?

I use multiple tools to safeguard my privacy (e.g., ghostety, better privacy, noscript). Granted, some blocked elements must be enabled in order for the site to function properly, but I rest assured that any tracking cookies and local shared objects (Flash cookies) are quickly deleted.

No software is perfect, and PC does have room for improvement. However, I find the overall site experience to be quite satisfactory & regard PC to be the premier website for Prius information & discussions.

I am sorry that the OP is dissatisfied with PC & hope that he finds another site that serves his needs.

I don't think this version is as "friendly" or inviting to random discussion as other seemingly more open "feeling" versions of Prius Chat.

But whatever framework we are given...for free, I might add...it's still "US" all the users and participants, that make Prius Chat worthwhile or not.

I'm getting more and more adjusted to this new version. And while, in some ways I simply don't find it as dynamic in visual presentation, it's still the same people, same ideas, and ultimately the same forums as before.

As far as the ads? I don't find them any more intrusive than before. And since my participation in this forum is allowed at no cost to me? I'm hardly going to complain about ads which I feel I can either interact with or ignore easily at my discretion and whim.

What ads? I use Firefox with the Adblock plus add-on installed and it is very clean and ad free. I pulled Priuschat up in IE and have to say, the ads aren't that intrusive. I have seen far worse.

I'm sure Danny is trying to get something back for the time and money he has invested. Rather than being a complete nice person, maybe you can offer up a more viable solution. For example, maybe you would rather pay for a premium membership to avoid ads?

I think it is just a troll to get us to the Land Rover forum.

Gotta say: I had to use an Ad-Blocker, to get the site to work with IE11.

Works great with IE 11 for me. No ad blocker required. I don't surf on my smartphone but I can see that the website is very "responsive", that is, works well with any size window (screen).

    Adblock works.
On my ipad(no adblock), I get the sign in box, I agree, sign in.
I like the new software, the top row of options (in blue) is available all the time instead of having to go to the top to use it, the site loads fasssst.
I want one of the tiny diesel land rovers that's going to get in the high 50's, but isn't going to come to the us

I shouldn't answer, I shouldn't answer... aw, hell, I'm going to answer. First of all, welcome to PriusChat. I'll just use bullet points because I find them easier to follow:
    • Cookies are required because otherwise every page you go to after signing in, you'd just have to sign in again. Cookies are a normal thing on the web and I don't personally care to track you using cookies or to sell you stuff. I'm not that smart.
    • If there are ads that are screaming at you, I'd love to know about them. I try to block anything that is annoying or hindering the user experience.
    • Like I posted in another thread, I'm testing different ad placements, units, and types to see what works best for PC as a revenue source and to provide some sort of value to the users (yes, I do think relevant ads can actually be helpful). Right now I'm testing a service called Skimlinks that finds relevant terms and hyperlinks them to Amazon or other places. I'm not sold on it yet, so I'm interested in hearing feedback (maybe I already have - I've been off the forums for a few days).
    • The overlay (I'm not going to call it a pop-up because I think of X10 ads when I say that word) has been a great way to encourage new folks to sign up on PriusChat. (thanks for joining, @Tpcorp!). On mobile it can be a bit more intrusive than on a desktop than I'd like, but you can click the X on the top right and be rid of it, or, you know, log in.
    • It's funny you mention that LandRoverForums site. It's owned by a large corporation (Internet Brands). PriusChat is owned by me. It's running a forum software version that is 3 1/2 years old, despite the large corporation that owns it also owning the forum software it runs (vBulletin). A thread on that site has 13 ad units on one page. This thread has 2 (3 if you're not logged in).
    • The # of daily posts, threads, and new users has only increased since I migrated PriusChat from vBulletin to XenForo about 2 years ago. The site is faster and more stable. It's not perfect, but it is a constantly evolving, living thing that I have decided to dedicate my professional life to and I appreciate everyone who comes here to learn, post, and, yes, even post their frustrations and critiques. Ask any former owners or moderators of sites that Internet Brands has purchased to see how they like their site literally frozen in time.

I'm not sure what you're referring to, but I'm open to discussing it if you want.

i guess it's something to do with os or browsers, but there seem to be a very small number of people with large problems.
