Scott- Don't be too disappointed if the 8-yr 100k miles warranty applies.
If I recall, Toyota warrants replacement batteries for 12-months (and we would expect you'll get many years).

Remember that the Toyota extended warranty only applies in CARB STATES, and my joke on that is, DC *might* be CARB, but it's definitely not a state <notwithstanding Pres Obama comments yesterday he feels DC should be state>.

We had an important test case from an MD owner a few weeks ago - Toyota refused extended CARB coverage on a MD 2006 Prii which might make sense because MD did not join CARB until 2011, so a 2006 would not qualify. Especially if first bought in non-CARB TX. I am even wondering if this is the same vehicle we are discussing here. But we rarely get enough of the story to be sure about things. There is some merit however to getting a ruling from Toyota...it's not just the battery that can cost you there are other major hybrid components...

but I stress it sounds like you have a car that will problem free for years.

The important point is your inverter and hybrid transmission are not covered because the vehicle is beyond 8 years. If either of those items fail it will be very costly to repair.

Here is another reference to Wash DC as a CARB State...

Clean Cars Campaign - State Action

I stand corrected! DC is apparently considered a "state" as far as the Clean Air Act is concerned.
Sounds like DC was scheduled to adopt CARB State status in 2011.

Whether or not this actually happened, I do not know: none of the hybrid car warranties I've seen (FORD, GM, Toyota, Honda, Hyundai) make any mention of DC as a CARB state when they list the 13 CARB states (DC would make 14 CARB states)
