Volt may lose its european brother: Ampera discontinued?

    Oh I didn't realize the EU had the equivalent of a CAFE. The United States set it to 35 average MPG by 2018(?), and 55 average MPG by 2025. What are the European Union's limits?

    Don't expect me to drive an Insignia just to prove GM lies more than Toyota.

    However, I do expect you to follow the Spritmonitor links from a few posts earlier, which show that Yaris 1.0 is about 15% over FE claimed and Insignia a dreadful 50%+.

    Not as simple as mpg's here as the EU is metric but it's an average CO2 of 130g/km by 2015 and 95g/km from 2021.

    The Prius is rated at 89g/km, a Honda Insight at 99g/km, EU Honda Civic 1.8 manual 148g/km, a Vauxhall Insignia 1.4 126g/km and an Aston Martin gets over 300g/km.

    So it's quite a strict target and probably why so many plug ins are suddenly being released.

    The Ampera is getting around the EPA combined, which is good for this side of the Atlantic. For efficient choices in Europe make it a tougher sell.

    The Prius gets 46-47mpg on Spritmonitor, which is worse than the 48-49 on Fuelly, but still close to the EPA 50mpg combined.

    Up to this point, it was never mentioned that the Spritmonitor Yaris numbers were exceeding NEDC. The quickly spotted 1.5L ones on Fuelly are also exceeding EPA, but I doubt they'll exceed NEDC. Couldn't spot any 1L ones, and the hybrids are pulling up the average. Toyota Yaris Mileage | Fuelly

    There are only five 1.4 Insignias on Spritmonitor, with the 2 worse having the least number of fill ups. Which is better than the one gas one on Fuelly. That one is listed a 2.0L, but with 1.8 power rating. Either way, the guy on Fuelly is exceeding the NEDC. LK14 YHR (Vauxhall Insignia) | Fuelly The elven or so 1.8s on Spritmonitor are doing worse though.

    It's a small size which will let variables have a larger sway. It appears most of Spritmonitor users are in Germany. If they drive at Autobahn speeds, that will pull down the real world numbers from the rated one. Does the Insignia attract more aggressive drivers?

    Well, one car not meeting a bloated government number does not make a corporation a liar. Hopefully, when the NEDC is revised for 2017, that rated numbers will be closer to what people get on the real world.

    Okay so the plugins are "compliance" cars to meet the EU's upcoming 95 g/km requirement. Got it.

    The EU appears to treat electric cars as Infinite MPG (no pollution and 0 g/km). That's a lot easier to beat than the CAFE requirement in America, since electrics are still considered "dirty" and only rate ~110 mpg.
