This Prius chat member mlibanio | PriusChat has intimate knowledge of GPS/NAV in the Gen1. Do a search on what he has posted and you should find the answers you seek! Does your 2003 have side airbags? Does the 2002? You will need to take the wiring harness from the underseat unit to the dash from the 2002 and transplant it in the 2003. There is a different harness (according to Toyota part #s) for a car with side airbags and NAV, side airbags and no NAV, no side airbags and Nav and no side airbags and no NAV.

i have taken out the harness from the 2002 with gps and side airbags. i will now be taking apart the 2003 without gps but with side airbags and changing the harness and add the antenna and the gps unit, is this all i need? also when i put the harness from the 2003 with no gps back into the 2002 that had gps will there be a problem? or will it just not have gps and everything else will be the same. thanks in advance

Hi Ytchernov, there is some advantage to just using an aftermarket GPS, easier updates and it leaves your MFD screen free for you to toggle between energy and mpg screens...

Lots of work for a crappy, out of date, Toyota GPS. I would rather use my Garmin
