After buying a Prius 06 that had the JBL system in it, I was missing all of the features of my Pioneer AVH-X5500BHS. The AUX port in the car has nothing on the Bluetooth Audio feature.

After 15 Minutes to remove all of the panels, Waiting the whole day for UPS to deliver the wiring harness and installing the radio in the dark and 22F weather. I am left with a fully working Radio and retained my climate controls.

For those who want to know, YES the climate controls on the steering wheel still works after replacing the factory radio. Just the back lights for the buttons are no longer lit. You just have to make sure the 68ohm resistor is attached to the Pink and White wires on the 20 Pin connector.

Only issue I am left with is the dreaded Red Triangle. I have read that it will resolve it'self automatically. Mine hasn't yet since I only used the Radio for a few minutes. I will report tomorrow if it is working.

It is a bit odd having two touchscreens in my car but I am sure I will get used to it.

On the plus side the sound quality is by far vastly improved. The stock Radio didn't do the JBLs justice. The Pioneer has a 10 band EQ as opposed to the horrible 3 band that the Prius came with. I also now have HD Radio which the car desperately needed.

Here is a photo of the setup. Pioneer Prius 06.png Any Questions please ask away.

Wow looks great!!! A couple of questions....did you have the premium JBL system before? Did you leave the original speakers or replace them? How much was the Pioneer unit? How long did it take to do the install? I have the JBL premium sound....what or where did you get the side pieces to get it to fit so well? Thanks Ron

I want to install a Pioneer AVH-X3500BHS. Similar unit, I guess a couple of models lower.

This is my first post as I have only owned my Prius for two days now :)

I assume you used the Metra 95-8240B kit to install the double din Pioneer unit.
I am wondering if you also used the TYTO-01 kit to turn on the JBL amp, or if it isn't required. I have a Pioneer double din I want to put in the Prius and I'll probably add a sub later, so maybe I'll need another amp too, but for now I just want a new head unit with the stock speakers like you have there.

You need the TYTO-01 kit for the JBL system to work. I used the Metra kit and it worked perfectly. The Metra kit comes with the Resistor that you need to use to maintain the Climate Controls. Sound Quality out of the JBLs with the pioneer sound far better. Still not as good as my old Blaupunckt 665s Tri-Component speakers. Only thing I didn't install was the Steering Controller. But as stated all of the other buttons still work.

Mine has the JBL System. The Pioneer unit is about $350 on amazon. I bought it a year ago and moved it from my Acura TL. I love the radio and hated being without it. Go to crutchfield, they have everything you will need.

I installed my Pioneer DVD with PAC TATO and I hate it. First off, it randomly lowers the volume for just a second then it recovers, but now the rear output has completely quit. I probably got a bad unit. I called PAC and I got voice mail. Left a message last week and no return call.
My dash kit did not come with a resistor, but I had several laying around so I was able to retain climate control, but no steering wheel control lights. I may end up just removing the factory amp and do all the wiring like I did in my Lexus because I want to add a little Sub too.

Sharp looking install. So did the backlights for the climate controls never come back on?

Nope, however it isn't really a big deal to me. As long as the buttons work I am happy.

    Hi jakthebomb

Can you please list the parts that you need to do this install? And possibly the link where you got the items from please.

    Best regards
    Hannah

yes you need the resistor. however, if you buy the correct harness kit, the resistor is already installed, if you can solder, its very easy to retrofit your pioneer. and get a metra axxess unit for your steering wheel buttons to work.
