I have one of these. Works well. Used it for a couple years in my old car but the CD player was already broken. Haven't tried a cd in my prius--actually can't remember the last time I listened to a cd in my car...with my phone, pandora, and xm it hasn't been needed.

great I ordered it! I choose this one because I like the location the phone will be in for navi and it will hopefully not obstruct the vents.

It blocks the vents partially but it depends mostly on how your phone is clamped in it (which depends on button location) and which way it is oriented. It does not block either vent completely, and at this time of year it get quite hot in the afternoons in Florida and I have not had any problems with inadequate airflow from the vent

I just got one for my Gen2. I love it! My only gripe is that it can get tricky if you need to remove it. Just take your time and it will come out without breaking anything.

I have a cell phone mount from proclip. My phone mounts next the cupholder. I tapped into the aux plug for charging power when the phone is in the mount.

I don't know about the regular Gen III Prius, but the Prius"v" has this useless "card slot" for business cards that could have been much better used for a cup holder.

An "L" shaped piece of aluminum with a cheap phone mount would be nice there, but you'd have to train you left hand.

    Just a thought.

Have you guys tried Steelie mount? It works really well. I use it to mount my phone right in front of steering wheel.

Looks cool - but not sure about having the piece stuck to the back of the phone like that :)

I found this simple IdeaWorks phone/gps mount at Frys Electronics for <$10. Looks like it's available on ebay & newegg also. Lets me put it right where I want it on top of the steering column within reach. Doesn't effect the tilt/telescope of the steering wheel. Looks like it would work well on the dash too.

Works great with my S4, and running a wire to it was a breeze down to the plug under the center console. I also just transplanted my Escort Smart Radar display from my previous vehicle - mounted just to the right of the phone, along with a Bluetooth ODBII module that shows RPMs/battery temps/Reverse Beep/Instant mileage on the phone with the Torque App.

I have a cd slot magnetic mount for my Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Overall I would rate it about a 8. Downsides are that the Note 3 is just a little heavy for the magnet and will let it slide over moderately rough roads. I don't think this would be a problem with lighter phones. Also, the setup obstructs the ac grill somewhat and the head unit slightly. Still, I'm happy with it. And no it doesn't harm the cd player.

This thread was handy when I was looking for a mount, so thought I would add my opinions. I purchased the "TechMatte MagGrip CD Slot Magnetic Universal Car Mount Holder" from Amazon for $10.99

It fits well into the CD slot once tightened down. I used both styles of plate, the one that fit between the phone and case, as well as the adhesive style. Neither phone slips once put in place. One things to note, the magnetic is so strong it can adjust the angle of the magnetic holder when you are removing the phone from the mount. I got in the habit of pulling the phone downwards where the motion bottoms out, and it has prevented this issue further.

The thing most people complain about is the thumb screw on the bottom of the mount blocking the dash. And of course, it is a problem with the LCD screen on the Gen 3 Prius. But a $1 bolt from a hardware store can solve this. Get either a M5x20, or a 10-32 x 1 and it should fix the problem. If you have a hacksaw you can fine tune the length of the bolt even more. The mount will not be as quick to remove, but I never foresee a need to remove it as this point.

The is the mount with the factory thumb screw blocking the LCD. It was annoying with NAV because it does a great job of blocking the upcoming street names.

This is the mount with the new $1 bolt. The bolt is now short enough to not block the screen. It still has about two threads showing, and I may shorten it a little with a hacksaw when I have some free time.

All in all I would recommend this mount WITH the bolt replacement.

Does anyone know if you have to remove the CD’s before inserting the phone holder? Also I wonder if you can play the discs while it’s inserted?

I found one on Amazon that I’ll probably get Not sure for Prius. I’ll share the pic for whoever is looking for ideas.
