    Hey everyone,

Just yesterday I had an issue resolved where my dog chewed up my SRS cables under the passenger seat. The had to fix that and while it was there they fixed two recalls (2008 Prius).

One of the recalls as I'm sure many of you know is the inverter cooling pump. So I'm driving home pretty excited when tragedy strikes. I check a big red warning triangle and a check engine like for p093a, the inverter pump! Damn it, they finally "fix it" and now it has a problem.

When I turn the car off the inverter pump works for a bit anyway. I cleared the code so we'll see if it was just a thing where it went off because they replaced it or what. Thoughts?

Most people are fine with clearing hybrid codes to see if they return or not.
I'm a bit hesitant about just clearing the code(s) without at least looking at the freeze data, even if I have no clue what it shows yet..
At least I have it. But it is defiantly an exercise in patience both getting it and learning what it means.

    "Tragedy strikes" lol....

How do you know its Po93a?

If its the Inverter pump either there's air in the system or your low on coolant or they never plugged the pump in.
To check 2 of these just make the car READY open the Inverter coolant tank cap and look in the bottle for very aggressive agitation like its boiling. If good agitation with car in READY but engine off listen to the pump behind the drivers side headlight. Should have smooth quiet whine not running water of gushing sounds which would indicate air in that system.

That is not the inverter pump. The pump which runs when you first turn the car on or off is the engine coolant heat recovery system pump. Its purpose is to move hot coolant to the engine upon startup so the engine will warm up faster, and upon shutdown to move hot coolant to the thermos container located in the driver's side wheel well, so the coolant will be available the next time the car is started.

P0A93 (not P093A) is an inverter pump fault code. You can determine whether that pump is running by making the Prius READY and looking for fluid turbulence in the inverter coolant reservoir.

Once I got home I used my engine code scanner and it came back with the P0A93 (I mistyped).

I'll have to check tonight, I know when I got home the resevoir was full with fluid so I'm assuming I'm not low, but I'll have to verify tonight.

    Yeah, I mistyped.

Thank you guys. I'll let you know what happens.

If this was a recalled issue, why are you addressing it yourself? Bring the darn thing back to the dealer and let them correct it.

If you do this wrong, your car will overheat and other things can get damaged.....

Understood, but I'm in a bind right now where essentially if it has to get towed to them out of pocket I can't afford it. I took it to the dealer by where I work, not the one by where I live. The tow charge would be obscene. Unless its likely that the dealer would cover the cost of the tow.

Would it be a reasonable expectation to have the dealer near my home fix the screw up of the other dealership, and at no cost because it is a recall-related issue?

Yes I would definitely bring it back to the dealer close to your house, explain to them the problem and let them sort it out with the dealer that did the recall.

I would call the dealer that fixed the car first, just to see how they want it handled. They may send a tow truck to you

I brought it back in to them. It, thankfully, was an air bubble in the system since they forgot to bleed it. Alls well now.

Bleeding air out of the Inverter system is so easy its ridiculous. All you have to do is open the bleed petcock. If you have a tubing you don't even need to lose any coolant. Hard to understand how they mess that up. They wouldn't have a chance if they did the engine coolant.
