Ok, a week later and here's the update. Still stuck in mO at wife's parents. Seen all of workoholics and season 6 of faceoff. Slowly losing my mind. Huge mtg Friday in Nola. Ugh. Usaa Insurance company will pay $ 7700. Not covering battery. Their adjustor got a 2nd opinion at $5800 no batt. I explained the Chain of effects-wiring harness fail--cooling fan fail--hv batt fail, but they said no. Reliable Toyotas service ctr springfield mo said they were unrelated. No one on my side=hosed. I said lemme keep the car for minus 500, insurance said they'd give me $5400 if I did that. What to do?!? I'm leaning toward the 7700 and buying a used Leaf. Or a Volt. Sucks. I got a flat!!! I loved my Prius! I posted on Toyota usas Facebook and they said call em. So i will tmrw.
Bad design. Plastic wheel well. A few stripped cables.... Poof!

    1. Its not clear how you are going to get from MO to LA in a Leaf unless you plan to drive <100 miles per day or are going to have the car transported via truck.
    2. I think your car suffered from some deferred maintenance given the long list of items that needed to be repaired. For example - missing relay box cover, burnt out bulbs, two tires with problems. Do not allow your next car to continue in operation with issues like that. You've already learned that it is not helpful to be on a road trip with marginal tires.
    3. Your insurance company's offer was fair IMO. Good luck with your decision.

Did you drive or run it at all after the tire blew? Unless you replaced the tire and drove on the spare, the HV battery fan wouldn't even have kicked on. The car should have limited battery use if the battery got too hot.

$7700 for the year and miles is pretty good. I wouldn't fix it, you never know what other issues could come down the road from the wiring damage.

a leaf? only good for 35 miles then needs a 12 hour recharge
a volt? under constant gm recall..no where near the MPG of the prius and you will not find one for under $12,000
I bought my 04 prius off e bay for $4250 and a trip to pick it up
Im not sure why you want to keep it if its trashed but the entire story does not make sense to me...
I don't see the insurance company paying anything towards the car at all if you allowed the tires to be used long after they were designed too, any damage is a direct result of your neglect to replace the tires...and most of the damage you mentioned could not be related to a blow out..you expect them to replace your cooling pump and battery LOL now that's funny

Careful with the misinformation about the plug-ins.

Leaf goes about 65 miles more than your estimate and charging times from 4-22 hours depending on depth of discharge and charging feed.

Although I'm aware of the GM recalls, there haven't been significant Volt recalls, and certainly none for 2014. As for your other two points on the Volt, I couldn't agree more. MPG is nowhere close to a Gen 2 Prius, and you can't find a good example used under $18K.

As a matter of fact, my Volt didn't use ANY gas in driving 2000 miles in July. Terrible MPG indeed ;)

Kemosabe, good luck with your repair or replacement.

You have many good options depending on your budget. If it were me, under $15K would keep me in a Prius while you could get a Leaf or Volt for not much over $20K net if you're eligible for the tax incentives.
