I do not know how the computer allowed this but as I was driving today it was 84 out. I had the windows down and was not running the ac. The battery had charged to all 8 bars. As I accelerated slowly I got all the way up to 43mph and held it there. I covered nearly 4 miles before the ICE kicked back in with 5 bars left. I thought the gen II was limited to 40mph? This was on a flat surface which was more interesting.

I originally thought that 41 mph was the boundary but I've seen glide at 42 mph. Maybe 43 mph is doable under certain conditions. Sounds like a nice glide run!

When you've got all 8 green bars like that then it's really keen to use electric power. I'd say that at least some of the time you were running with the engine turning over but no fuel injection. From a display point of view this mode of operation is no different than a pure (engine non rotating) glide at speeds <= 41 MPH, though it's not quite as efficient.

Either that or it's the daisy in front of your air vent imparting special super-glide powers to your Prius.

If you tune in carefully at that ~42mph transition, you will feel the torque bump that occurs when the engine/MG1 is brought up to speed. There might be a brief flash of arrows on the MFD, but the no arrows glide will continue without engine power.

i'll bet most of that run was very slight downhill, almost unnoticeable.

Agreed on the engine probably spinning without fuel. You can easily see this with a scanner like a Scangauge or Ultragauge. the same thing can even happen at freeway speeds, if conditions are right.

No I live in North Dakota in the valley. It's as flat as a pancake here. The only hills are by over and under passes which are man made.

The only issue I've been having was last winter I had a rattle in the engine. Today I had the ac running since it was 90 out and when the battery got to 2 bars there was excessive load on the ice. As I accelerated the knocking from the engine got unbearable so I eased off the throttle and It went away. Once the pack was back up to 4 bars the knock went away. I hope I don't need a new engine
