Just wait for the Gen IV and see if the Prius V is given a date if you can wait 2 yrs? Meaning: buy something else when the Prius Gen IV comes out as that information will be much more reliable than what you can get today.

Exactly my way of thinking as well.

I am looking to upgrade and current options are either a Lexus NX 300h or Prius Gen IV. The NX will be available in October this year and I am going to do a test drive but I will wait till Prius Gen IV (and NS4?) details are announced to make a decision.

Yes it could be a long wait but I want to make it a well considered decision and for that, I would need to know about Gen IV.

16 months, December of 2015, is a substantial wait for the Gen IV now that the announcement of a 6 month delay from the original release date of spring of 2015 seems to be confirmed!

I revel in the fact we will *know* at least the same time we see the Volt 2 - so if it's not shown at the LA show this Nov, then back to Detroit early next year. That could give enough time for the 2015 MY to ''pick up'' steam so to speak (though honestly, what steam could it pick up unless there are good deals...)

I tried to wait. I wanted a Prius+ (the 7 seat version of the Prius V) when they came out but they are only available in Japan and Europe. So I was going to see if that would be corrected in the G4. But it's taking too long and I bought a Mazda5 last week.

My wife is patiently waiting for the AWD Prius.
Come to think of it, so am I.

There's probably a lot of these kinds of stories floating around....I'm in for a good hybrid 7-8 seater (not HiHy)

I won't wait either. It's taking too long. Usually I change to a new modell every third year but since Toyota is delaying the next version substantially and given they already are somewhat behind others in terms of MPG my long loyalty to the brand is broken. As a lease customer you usually plan ahead a few months before changing to a new car but since zero info is available you effectively scare off customers sadly.

Very true, but Leasing is different from Purchasing.

Yes, in many respects. You're absolutely right. If you purchase your car you probably keep a few more years before changing I guess.

Isn't your lease up in 2015? That's when the Gen IV arrives. And if the next gen +/V comes out 2-3 years later you could lease the same vehicle again and wait....But yes, there are other options now

Add inflexibility to the long list of disadvantages leasing brings. When your lease is up you fill forced to head to the car lot.

    LONG, long list....
All the proponents see is that they get a new car/technology every 3 years.

I get an AWD Prius (V?) in a heartbeat.

Not quite. For example a new Toyota here in Sweden has 3 year warranty. And yes my current lease ends next year in June. There wont be a new IV gen at the dealer in June 2015 and certainly no next gen replacement for my current Prius+ (V). Maybe a facelift but leasing a new car with a drive train from 2009 is not an option in terms of MPG or CO2 for me. There are a lot of other options that are substantially better now. Sad to say because I love my Prius but lacking towing capability, AWD amongst several things makes Toyota hybrids face tough competition from diesels here. And yes, Highlander Hybrid isn't available here. Other vetter options are Mitsubishis Outlander PHEV though a bit large, 2015 Volvo XC90 and smaller diesel crossovers and sedans.

And to me heading to the car lot every three years isnt a problem. My company leases the car for me so I guess disadvantage is a bit subjective which depends on your situation. And if you have a private lease, you can always keep your car after three years with a lower monthly leasing fee.

If I had someone paying for my lease I'm pretty sure I'd be all about leasing as well.

    This sounds like the UK.

Nothing is free. The company generosity is deducted from the paycheck.

Visited the Toyota of Fort Worth August 2014. Looked at the 2014 Prius V as we bought the 2012 Prius V ver 5. Rep said that the next Prius V design update will occur in 2016. But then we already knew this......

Huh? The plant itself or a dealership? What would they know. So all next versions of the Gen IV will come out the following year of the liftback version?
