I asked this in the electronics, but little or no response, I have searched, but have found nothing. The v (lowercase v) three comes with the 1-door smart key feature, and I was wondering if an upgrade to the 3-door feature that the v five comes with is even possible? I would imagine that the module is the same, just need the sensors on the passenger door and hatch? has anyone done this?

    I think what you're talking about is called a "trade-in". ;)

Update: I have ordered all of the parts, and have confirmed that there is no wiring harness on the Prius v ( lowercase v ), so hopefully the connection for the passenger side door handle is wireless, we will see once I get the parts in and start taking the car apart!

I'm interested in doing the same to my Prius. We were going to trade in for a newer Prius which has these features, but it is cheaper to add the features we want by ourselves rather than get a new car.

Please post how this turns out.

Update: I opened up the passenger door panel and took a look inside. The v needs a wiring harness for the passenger side door. However, it is not sold separately for the v for some strange reason. It is sold as part of the entire wiring kit for the door. Since that kit costs about $250, I decided to order the wiring harness for the regular Prius in hopes that it works since its only $40. The reality is that it looks like its only one wire that needs to be connected, so if the harness doesnt work, I will probably just figure out a way to connect the door handle to the connector that is in the door. I will keep everyone updated.

I've don't this mod myself of 2 classic Prii's & with the expectation of the door size being slightly larger on the v, I don't see why it wouldn't work....might just need 2 extend the door harness.

If I reach into my pocket while still 25 feet from the car and press the second button from the bottom on the fob twice, 5 doors open on my v3. Been doing it for 2 years and don't even have to think about it now. Key fob is always in the same pocket and nothing else but my money clip is there. I just know where that button is by feel by now. I don't even use the door handle because the fob buttons have become so instinctive. Ditto on locking it while walking away with the first button.

When my wife uses the v3, she doesn't have to worry about someone jumping in the passenger side because she opened the doors and they all unlocked auto-magically.

Update: The regular Prius wire harness works, both connectors fit, now its just a matter of wiring it up, the car is in the body shop getting some work done, so it might be a few weeks before the install is complete. I will keep everyone posted.

    But good luck anyway

with the 3 door sks, you can program only the driver door to unlock when you touch the handle. in fact, this is factory default, the nice part is, you can touch the hatch or passenger handle to open them. i really like it. haven't touched my fob in 10 years, except to put it in my pocket.

Update: The wires on the Gen III Prius and the Prius v do not correspond, there is only one wire coming out of the passenger side door on the v, where there is 6 on the Gen III. Also, the ECU connector wires do not match up, so I am stuck at this point unless someone else knows, or has done this to a v. I will continue to investigate this, and have sent a message to the person who figured this out for the Gen III. It seems like I might be able to wire the rear hatch, so I will give that a try. What would be extremely helpful is if someone has a v 5 that would be willing to take apart their passenger side door panel, to see how it is wired. I will not quit until this is done and works!!!

Surely there are online diagrams of what you need right? Techinfo.toyota maybe?

Update: I went to techinfo.toyota.com and bought a 2 day subscription, downloaded the wiring diagrams for the v (lowercase v) and the Gen III, and noticed a few small differences on wire colors and pin placements. The main difference is that all of the wires from the wire harness on the passenger side door must be ran through the door into the footwell of the passenger side and then connected to the Certification ECU connector. If anyone does this, just make sure you document which wire is which before you put the door panel back on. I connected everything according to BrettS excellent instructions, and everything works except for the opening of the rear hatch when the car is locked. I can lock all doors from the small button on the rear hatch, but it wont open when the car is locked. The passenger door opens and locks when your hand is present on the sensor on the door handle just like the driver side. I will continue to troubleshoot this issue, and hopefully get it resolved soon.

Ok, I figured it out! It now works perfectly! If anyone wants to try this on a v, I will post the different wire color connections, and different steps that need to be taken as compared to BrettS's excellent write up for the Gen III Prius

Very cool! This is one of the features we miss most going from a Gen 2 to a v (lowercase v) 3.
