Time for new tires. I'm looking at the continental true contact and the Michelin energy saver as. I find plenty of info on the energy savers but not much on the true contact. Has anyone tried the true contact and how was the mpg?
the true contacts have a better rated mileage life span. They also are very well rated for wet traction. They claim to be lrr tires. But I can not find any charts that show rolling resistance of these are the energy savers

The TrueContacts are new so we gotta wait for full reports. But I don't have much remaining tread life to wait, will probably try the True Contacts before winter. Where are you approximately Quinton? If winter is issue for you I think True Contacts, but will not match A/S for MPG.

I'm in Florida. Never been in snow. Wet traction is important. Also I look at cost per mile. If the true contacts are good for 30000 more miles but take away 1-2mpg the added mileage may make the TC better deal

I like the Yokohama AVID Ascend tires I have on my 2010 Prius II. You can look up the reviews on them at Tire Rack.com. I have put about 2000 miles on them and they are very quiet and seem to handle well. Wet traction so far has been good. I like them a lot better than the michelin Defenders I had on my Honda CRV. Seem to have better wet traction. They are LRR tires.

I have looked at the avid ascend. I really like the price. I am confused with reviews and tests on these tires. I have read they are dangerous on wet roads, others say wet traction is good. Some report improved mpg from stock tires, others say they lost mpg and never come back after break end. Some say they wonder on the road and tend to follow grooves in road, others say no such problem. I dont know if some get made in different factories or with different compounds but the reviews have been very inconsistent. What has been your experience Lar?

I have had a very good experience with these tires. We don't get a whole lot of rain here in North Texas but I have had a chance to drive in the rain with out any problems. If your driving and it just started to rain the road is going to be slippery from all the oil on it especially at inter sections. No tire is going to give you good traction under those conditions. It don't take long for that to wash off. I have had them up to 80mph on the interstate with no wobble. Any tire will tend to follow grooves in the road if they are deep enough. I have had no problems at all. I would recommend them as I have had good luck with them so far. I am 72 year old retired truck driver. Driving 18 wheelers all over the US and Canada.

Just put PureContact EcoPlus on to replace my old Yoko Avid's, and watch my highway mileage drop from 48ish to 40ish (I do a lot of 400-600 mile highway runs at ~75 MPH). Ran 1200 miles this weekend, and I pulled three tanks of gas at high of 52MPG (3/4 of that tank was on the Yoko's), a low of 39, and one in between at 41. My miles/tank dropped from ~520/tank to ~420/tank! I almost ran out of gas on the way to my usual gas station.

Thanks for the replies. Just got off the phone ordering energy saver as in 195 instead of 185 factory size. The 195 is cheaper, corrects the 2% error in speedometer and has higher load rating. If you add the 2% back to mpg it will be same.
