I am really interested in putting the Pioneer AVIC-8000NEX into my 2010 Prius solar package 4. But I have some questions and I am hoping there may be some knowledgable folk here who know the answers!

    1. Will the steering wheel controls be able to work with the pio unit for native pio control? Will they also function for CarPlay?

    2. Will the car information interface and info still be available for servicing?

    3. The pio unit has a hookup for a separate Sirius tuner. Will the xm tuner under my driver seat plug into and function?

    4. Will the backup camera still function?

I really have scant love for the current JBL head unit. I know I would like the pio unit.

I have been eyeing those new and nifty pioneer receivers but read some preliminary reviews that there are still some interface issues with these units. Perhaps wait a little while for them to work out the kinks before you purchase one?

I am saving up for the alpine INE-Z928HD and already have the dash kit for it so everything looks OEM once it is installed. For this dash kit, steering wheel controls etc are able to be retained. However, I hear from other users that the information interface will not work anymore :(. No problems with the backup camera

Uh oh. What part of the information interface no longer works? Are you referring to the two ghost wheel controls that pop up in the dashboard when you press the steering wheel buttons?

I just installed the Alpine INE-Z928HD and with the perfect fit kit from alpine it is an installation not for the faint of heart. The install went well, I installed an alpine camera (the least expensive one they sell). The result is video quality back up and a very nice system. Believe it or not just the Alpine by itself sounds great.

I had the 8000 installed in my 2010 Prius IV. The installer used a voltage adapter for the backup camera and a steering wheel control adapter, as well as a JBL amp adapter to get everything else working. Can't wait for the CarPlay update!

I too bought the Pioneer 8000 from Crutchfield along with the required harnesses to integrate to the factory harness and adapters for steering wheel control and jbl amp integration.

I already have a subwoofer so i'll use dedicated RCA connections from the head unit direct to the sub amp rather than the speaker level inputs a professional installer did (only and best way to integrate a sub to the factory radio; I had no intent at that time to replace the factory radio).

Some additional research I found an adapter to connect the factory sat radio antenna to the new head unit, which was 60 bucks but IMO it's worth it as now I don't have to have an external antenna mounted to the top of the car. I'm waiting for the main equipment to arrive, and I plan to install it myself. Also ordered that antenna adapter and the parts necessary for the camera; guess it's official that it runs off of a reduced voltage output, wasn't sure earlier.

I just purchased the 8000 too, but still waiting for delivery and all my parts.
I'll be completely redoing my whole system, as I have the base II model Prius.
I'll be installing a wheel adapter, Pio rear view camera, polk speakers, 5 channel amp, JL mini 8" and some sound deadening!

Hey guys, my wife has a 2010 Prius IV and her JBL unit has been messing up. The sound has cut out completely now and from what I have researched I have to replace the entire head unit! Everything else works fine except there is no sound. Buying factory is just too expensive for what you get so I have been looking at these pioneer units. Any help on what exactly I need to buy to retain all of our factory features would be great! Also, if we have iphones and plan on using the navigation through carplay, should we save money and just get the 4000?

I just had a chat with Crutchfield and they replied that NO head unit will work with bluetooth steering wheel controls that they carry. Let me know if someone else finds out different.

re: compatibility...my 8000NEX is able to use the stock backup camera, stock JBL amp, and stock steering wheel controls in my 2010 prius.

BTW - Here's what may be one of the first photos of CarPlay running in a 2010 Prius. Woo hoo!

how exactly your steering wheel controls are functioning? Do you able to make 1-button-push call to Siri? How it interferes with Music, etc etc.

Just a "heads" up that Pioneer just announced Android Auto support for some models. Woohoo!

    "The Pioneer AVIC-8100NEX ($1,400), AVIC-7100NEX ($1,200), and AVH-4100NEX ($700) will be available starting in March 2015."

    Pioneer Android Auto hands-on:

    1. Just curious, do you lose any Prius functionality at all?

    2. Presumably you can no longer hit INFO and see the color battery charging animation?

    3. What would you guesstimate the total cost is, all inclusive, for a Prius 5 with Advanced Tech Package?

    Thanks!

Also, does anyone know if there is another way to access the vehicle settings page you presumably lose, like door lock beep volume, etc.

I'm about to embark on installing an Appradio 4 or one of the NEX models in my 2011 Prius - I've got a AWSC-1 steering wheel control unit, which I know will work as far as the volume/radio controls goes, but will my AC/climate controls work after the upgrade?

I've noticed with older Prius models, people have had to install resistors and the like to maintain climate controls. Will I need to do anything like that with the Gen 3 Prius?
