    Hello!
    '06 145k
Last week I had my driver's side front wheel bearing replaced (may be worth noting that this was not done at a dealer). It had been making a horrible racket for several weeks, typical airplane noise as well as an intermittent metallic rattle, which I later concluded must have been the dust plate (now removed).
The day before replacement, the ABS/VSC/(!) came on, went off, then came on again.
Had the wheel hub replaced, lights were still on. Drove to work the next day, and about 30 miles in, the red brake light came on, and at the same time, my speedometer dropped to 0 (I was doing about 65), the odometer stopped, and the MPG bar thing just stayed black for the rest of the trip.
When I got to work, I shut it off and waited a few minutes, then restarted. Still no speedo reading, and after a moment the death triangle came on. I shut down immediately.
I jumped the ODB port and got the ABS flash codes 32, 34, 35 &31. This shut off the red light, and the speedo/odometer are working agian. Tried resetting the warning lights by pressing the brake 8 times, but this did not work.
You can tell that the ABS is not functioning, and I've been reading that clearing the codes should/might take care of that if there's not a more serious underlying problem. Would the fact that the codes didn't clear indicate that I do indeed have such a problem? I'm not sure exactly what the flash codes mean, but what little I read made them sound like a pretty general code thrown when the sensor is disrupted.
Can anyone give me any insight on this? I have never once had a good experience with my dealer and would like to avoid paying the $104 to reset if I possibly can.

Those blink codes indicate that there is a problem with three of the speed sensors: left front, right front, and left rear wheels.

Also, if there are any missing parts they should be replaced.

Is the backing plate necessary? I was sort of led to believe that it was not, but I honestly don't know the first thing about brakes.

It provides some protection to the inside of the disc. Presumably Toyota would not install the plate if it served no useful purpose since it clearly has no cosmetic value.
