I got a used 2010 Prius last week. I immediately checked with the dealer if the recall was already completed on my vehicle. The guy on the desk grudgingly checks his computer and came out empty (claims only the Highlander Hybrids are on the recalled list in Canada). I checked against toyota.ca/recalls for my vin and no recall whatsoever came up. However government websites site list2010-2014 Prius as part of the recall.

Anybody know whats the real deal in Canada? I can't believe Canadian prius got a different inverter than the US so rather than waiting for it to fail like a sitting duck, i'd rather be proactive and address this issue asap. Thanks

2010 Prius is most definitely on the recall list. Maybe just miscommunication, the recall's already been done on yours? This is the front page of the letter we got:

Thanks Mendel. So I guess you had yours done already right? I think i would be better served if I call Toyota Canada instead and have them check if mine has already been done using my vin.

Believe the 'inverter' recall was Worldwide. It's just a large software update.

I can confirm that I also received the same letter regarding the recall. I had the service done in April. It was a software update.

It's weird that your dealer doesn't know this. They should be able to look it up via the VIN number. Did your car originate in the US? If it came from the US it might not be in the Canadian system. (??)

As you can see from other posts in the forum, the software change hasn't helped everyone. The inverter on my 2010 Prius died/fried two days ago and my Prius is now dead and sitting at our local Toyota dealer awaiting replacement parts from Japan. No ETA on the parts yet. :-(

I've now improved my fuel economy significantly as I have to ride my bicycle to get around. <grin> I want my car back!

Hopefully the recall will help you.

If you'd like I can post the full recall notice. I believe the recall notice number was SOSH-230-1A.

Oh, just another thought. Perhaps the recall has already been performed on your vehicle. The dealer should be able to see when using your VIN.

Thank you all for your replies. I appreciate all your help - specially Mendel for taking time to scan and post his letter.

Anyway after nothing came out of Toyota USA website just in case my Prius is (was?) an american car (thanks nukem for bringing up the US possibility), i called Toyota Canada and they said no recalls are outstanding on my car. I then specifically asked their CSR to check for the inverter recall and he said it was already done.

So now I can doubly sleep!!! Not only because it is confirmed done, they now have a record of me calling in to make sure it was... any future failure on this part will be on them, lol.

Maybe they should put some sticker on the underside of the hood for recalls, to help future owners in particular.

There was another recall for a component of the brake system, something in the master cylinder I believe. We got that done as well. They managed to (cosmetically) chew up our wiper blades a bit: the car has to taken half apart for pretty much anything towards the rear of the engine bay, spark plugs for example.

A sticker could come off, intentionally removed, or lost when a hood is replaced (not often). A publicly accessible database that lists what has/hasn't been done on a VIN in a Manufacturers website would be nicer.

I'm looking at that too; didn't realize it was related to the inverter.
