My 2005 Prius with 229k miles is not picking up my speeds and mileage. I was driving highway speeds when I approached stop and go traffic. As I was putting along, I noticed my parking brake light was on, but the brake itself is not engaged. Then I noticed the display was only showing zero and the mileage was not picking up my distant. My mpg/ice/hybrid system display is also not getting a speed reading and my cruise control doesn't work.

The car drives normal and the mpg is the same as before(I'm using gps for speed and mileage). There is only one code, but that is for a o2 sensor. All the fuses are fine. I'm not sure how to check for a bad relay, but I pulled them all and they look fine. I also unplugged my battery to reset the ecu. I should also say the driver front abs sensor was damaged when I replaced the wheel bearing 6 months ago.

Any idea what sensor it could be? Hopefully it's not an internal one to the transmission. I've done my searching on PC, but did not find a similar problem.

I'd imagine it's good, but I did not verify with the on board diagnostics. I replaced it less than 6 months ago. I've had a numerous other repairs, but none really pertinent to the problem at hand (brakes, struts, etc.)

I'm thinking it's the bad speed sensor, even though it was damaged months ago. Or maybe it's another faulty speed sensor by chance. Both abs and traction control work

There is no speed sensor as such. The speed is of the car is taken from the ABS sensors, and if one of these is faulty you would get a fault code along with no ABS.
The fault is usually caused by a cracked soldered joint within the speedo display, and is fairly common on the 2004/5 displays.
OP Peefe was repairing these in the US, but I do not know if he still does.

What do you mean the speedo display? You mean the actual display/instrument panel and the connected wire? Is OP Peefe a Priuschat user?

I would print the above information and take it to your dealer as they will possibly deny any knowledge of the extension.

The symptoms will vary depending on what soldered internal connections are bad in the combination meter. I cannot remember how many connections there are but I believe it's about 40+.

Thank you. Now since I have a 2005, is the car 9 or 10 years old? How do they count mileage?

From the Warranty Extension notice: This warranty enhancement is available for 9 years with no mileage limitation from the date of first
use or before September 30, 2013 whichever is longer

They do not count millage your car can have done 500,000 miles.
    2014 - 2005 = 9years depending on date of first use.
Take it to your dealer and see what they say. If they say NO try contacting Peefe or fit a unit from a 2006 or later to avoid a repeat of the problem.

Todd at TampaPrius touched on this combination meter on another thread, mentioning if you replace the 04-05 units, you should get the replacement from the same year. There's an idiot light that will come on if you get 2006 or newer. I forgot what the idiot is reminding you of, but 2004-2005 wasn't equipped with it.

Actually now I can't remember if it was the MFD or combination meter he talked about.
