    My 2009 Prius was parked for two weeks. When I started yesterday the red triangular warning light, circular yellow light with exclamation symbol in center, and vsc warning lights did not go off. No previous problem with these. Top half of display screen blank. Vehicle started/ran normally. No change in handling or braking. On highway, cruise control would not activate. I don't trust our very large, aggressive dealership. Any ideas before I seek service, so I hopefully can avoid getting ripped off. Thanks.

    As always around here, the 12V battery is suspect until checked, especially since the car sat and allowed it to discharge. Put a small charger on it. The cruise control does not work if the other errors are present. How old is the 12V? How many miles on the car? As for the MFD, do you mean that there is no display at all in the top half? That is not good, and may indicate that you need to replace it, or it just didn't boot up properly. The replacement can be done DIY if you can follow the directions. Get a used unit, and it is just a plug and play affair.

    Hi nh7o. Thanks for your reply. I will check the 12v per your suggestion. Car is 2009 and 12v is original, so that could well be the problem. Top half of display not activating (black screen, although there is a red symbol (warning?) which looks like a car with a line through it in the top left quarter of the display. The display did come fully back during one restart (then went out during that power up), so hopefully there is still life there. Again, thanks. I am a mechanical idiot, so your help is much appreciated.

    Hi Texas Hill Country. Lived 26 years in Texas before settling for good in Virginia. Hill Country is one of my favorite regions on earth. What is the Combination Meter TSB? If 12v check is unfruitful, I will call service advisor as you suggest. Thanks for your help. Where in the Hill Country are you?

    Go to the link in my post above. The Combination Meter is the display (combination of a lot of things) and there was a recall that IF it failed Toyota fixes it even out of warranty. So don't spend too much money before you check into free dealer options.

    Thanks RJ. With link, I found the shop I'd like to use. 12 reviews, all 5 star, honored as most honest mechanic in Charlottesville.

    Checked the 12v battery. It is good. Producing 12.8 to 12.9 volts and holding that in auxillary mode. So still looking for solution.

    Nh7o. 12 is good. Output holds at 13.8 to 13.9 volts in auxiliary mode. Any other suggestions? And thanks again.

    how are you testing it? i would put a digital multimeter on the battery posts in the morning before starting the car.

    if the battery checks out, you need someone with a code reader to see if any have been logged. some auto parts places will do it for free.

    Hi Bisco: I used the technique presented on YouTube. You reach diagnostics on the vehicle display screen through a series of steps. You can then put vehicle in auxilary mode. On screen you are given a voltage reading for battery under load. 13.8 to 13.9 which is what I got is supposed to indicate a good battery. I'm very willing to try the multimeter which sounds more reliable. I don't have one. I'm not adept mechanically. I'm going to Auto Zone this afternoon. They have a code reader.

    The 13.8V-13.9V reading is what you get when the Prius is READY. That shows you the DC/DC converter is working properly to maintain correct voltage on the DC bus. That measurement says nothing about the 12V battery's condition.

    The measurements which do reflect the battery's condition are those which are taken when the Prius is not READY, especially the measurement taken when the Prius is IG-ON, where all dashboard warning lights are on. That puts a fairly heavy load on the 12V battery.

    Hi Patrick: Thanks. How do I take get that measurement? Will I need a meter on the battery? Just had a parts store put a code reader on the vehicle. My error code is C1310.

    Yes, your most reliable measurements will be via a decent digital multimeter and measuring voltage at the battery.

    DTC C1310 is logged by the skid control ECU and means that the hybrid vehicle drivetrain has a problem. There should be additional DTC logged by the hybrid vehicle ECU which will point to the root cause.

    I think your car has a real problem that goes beyond the 12V battery.

    Hi Patrick and Bisco: She has 55,000. Maintained according to schedule. 2009 model so age might be as much a factor as mileage.
