I don't know much about my car (or any car for that matter)

I have a 2008 Toyota Prius which currently has 123,000 miles on it

My AC stopped working. So I brought it to the dealer, when it was still under warranty to find out it was actually NOT under warranty anymore (100k mile warranty doesn't really mean 100k)

So, I came on here and found a few suggestions, one of which works 100% of the time.

If your AC stops working, take an empty 2 liter bottle of soda, and on the passenger side front, under the glove compartment whack the plastic, in an upward motion. AC will turn on. Fixed Permanently? No. Will it work for a few days? OH YEAH.

yea, they left that part out.

I didn't even ask -- my dealership adventures which included chevrolet, caddy, and a volvo dealerships were so awful, I wasn't going to have anything done at the dealer that I didnt have to just in case.

I figured I would google the hell out of it, till I stumbled upon this site, which I will just continue to use the method I found here until it doesn't work anymore --- which should be this upcoming week judging by the heat wave thats on the way!

I just wanted to share it with everyone, maybe help a few of you guys out and save some people a few dollars, for now at least.

I have a 2007 Prius with 130k miles. The A/C was not as cold as it's been in years past. I went to the auto parts store and got a refill A/C container. I bought the one with the leak sealer...just in case. Found the port and followed the instructions including setting the PSI gauge as recommended per the ambient outside air temperature. As it was re-filling, the gauge on the replacement a/c re-fill gauge was reading zero then would jump high PSI on the gauge, then jump back down to zero. Just thought it was a bad gauge. The system took about 10 to 12 ozs and then the gauge stayed on the higher end. I stopped the refill and gave the a/c about another 5 minutes and felt what was coming out of the vents on the inside of the car. There was no change whatsoever and I shut it down for the night. Then the next afternoon when I was going somewhere, I turned on the a/c and now it won't blow anything but hot air!! REALLY do not wanna spend money on a new system which, according to the parts department at Toyota, could be as high as $4,400.00.....without labor!!!! (Yes, you read that price right.) I'm hoping it's just some kind of a broken seal or a leak in a hose line...hoping. Has anyone had a similar problem? Please help.

I have just had this issue with my 2005. Problem is the a/c fan motor. In my case it started getting noisy at first then it wouldn't start unless given a thump under the glove box. You can use your hand rather than a 2 liter soda bottle because you're probably going to be pounding away on the transmission controller computer which is mounted on the bottom of the blower unit. Anyway, it stopped working altogether last Monday just in time for a very hot week here. I'm pleased to report that I fixed it this morning, took about 30 minutes and total cost was $37.00 for a new motor and fan from Rockauto.com plus whatever speed shipping you choose.

As for your problem Goose it sounds like you've let all the gas out, maybe when you unplugged the filler the valve didn't close properly. I have seen that happen on other cars. Try another top up can and see if it works at all, if it does then you can start looking for a leak. Check every joint for an oily/dirty appearance.
