I've been reading some of the threads here on those who dig deep into getting various readouts form their Prius, and am curious about it, wanting to learn more.

I know Torque Pro is a common, app that's used, but I have a iPhone (sorry, but I prefer Apples to Oranges) and just found an app for the iPhone called Engine Link that seems to offer the same things. I've also figured out that I will need to get an OBD adapter. My question is: Can I just get any ol' OBD adapter and use it with the Prius, or will I need one that is proprietary to the Prius, and the Apple app. I see OBD adapters sold on e-Bay for about five bucks. Seems pretty cheap. I really want to learn about this stuff so any straightforward explanations would be most appreciated. Thanks!

A few pages describing Engine Link suggest using an ELM 327 OBD-II WiFi adapter.

According to the listing for Engine Link on the App Store it states that one can also use a "low Energy Bluetooth adapter to connect to your OBD2 engine management / ECU". Can someone "translate" this for me? thanks.

The link doesn't take me there. I too use Engine Link w/ ELM 327 wifi OBD II; works great! I leave it plugged in all the time and occasionally turn on Engine Link to see whats doing. There are plenty of custom Pids for the Prius.

This is what it looks like, (see below). My concern is if it will ruin anything on the Prius if I plug it in. Mine's a 2014 and not sure if this is the right one.

You're good to go with that! Its what I have. You' ll want the wifi, not bluetooth version.
