A laptop can have the same performance specs as a desktop, but which computer format tends to have a longer service life? Better laptops and tablets may use a metal case, and use that case as the heatsink for the CPU.

On a plug in, leaving battery cooling to ambient air temperatures doesn't seem to be a good idea at this time.

That's why I mentioned forced air instead of ambient.

Agreed - but still - ya gotta have a way to get that forced air in there. Here's a nice shot of how tight Nissan packs their modules. Not much room in there for forced air - and if it's Temps aren't significantly colder or hotter than a roasting or freezing pack ... it's gonna have an up-hill battle :

Unless the forced air is getting cooled by the AC, and I believe current Leafs only have heating, the blown air is still the same temperature as the ambient. It will cool better than a passive system, but will still have a shallower heat delta than an active cooling system, which means less heat transferred from the pack to the air.

I totally agree. Everything that I've research so far confirms what you are saying - an active liquid cooled thermal battery management would markedly improve an EV's Li ion battery's reliability and lifespan
