I haven't been online here for quite a while my 2002 was working fine, just a couple minor things along the way. Now at about 238,000 mi. But now I want to ask your opinion on my current problem. It's a long story but I'll start with the short version. Early June was parked thought I'd roll the windows down cause it was hot, put the key in turned it on lower the windows and walked away. several hours later went to go home and realized I had left the ignition on the whole day. Jump started it but the HV battery was very low. managed to drive around slowly n it got charged enough to make it home. after charging the 12v overnight it worked great for a couple weeks then one night it started running real rough and dies as I pulled in the driveway. Put a new 12V battery. It would start for a few seconds then shut off. towed to mechanic he didn't know he had toyota check it. they said hv battery dead. Got a reman HV batter had it installed it ran great for a day then got red triangle and cel. called the guy i bought battery from and got codes from autozone p0171 and others and p3030 and 3006. he said MAF some times causes all those codes. changed it runs good now but still had triangle warning. on way back to mechanic. ice everything ran, great then after a few miles it was like I lost a clutch or threw a chain on a bike , the ice would rev but wouldn't drive the car. and no arrows on the mfd power display. mechanic says could be lean condition error caused by low compression in cyl #1. and engine maybe bad. They guy I bought the battery from said is is possible that a cell or two went bad. I have to get the current codes from him yet. once I do I'll let you know what they are. Which of these two diagnosis would be most likely the cause of my problems?

    Thanks,
    Mike

The problem is most likely in your hv battery and can be fixed quite easily. 3006 is a broken heat sensor wire/tab in the wiring harness and can be soldered easily. It's very rare for a Prius engine to go bad unless you ran over something and the oil drained out somehow. This goes for the transmission fluid as well. I'd start by taking out your hv battery and looking closely at your wiring harness. While you're in there measure all 38 module with a vu meter. This will narrow down your problem fairly quickly. Good luck!

Since it is a remanufactured battery still under warranty. I'll leave the going inside up of it up to them.

The battery is under warranty and the code is a hybrid battery code.
Get it replaced under warranty ASAP.

The symptoms you describe sounds like an HV battery issue to me.
I like your comparison of the problem to throwing a chain on a bike. I'll have to use that one sometime.
