Toyota gives you a receipt with a date and gives you a 1 year warranty, that's probably all they need to provide. This isn't like a 12v where you can easily access it, it's high voltage and is only suppose to be handled by qualified techs .

The modules have individual sku numbers, maybe those numbers can be looked up for manufactured date.

I have a 2005 module with number 2390ea03522e. so based on your information, it would be manufactured in (e) 2004

this is very good info. thanks

    Thank Dave.

Perhaps I misunderstand the code, I thought he was saying the year is 2390ea03522e -- 5 years after 1999

I would tend to place my money on the publicly traded company that has had years of experience in providing aftermarket parts.

Also I am certain we will eventually see aftermarket new cells for the Prius.

Where do you find new OEM batteries for $2000?

I spent some time doing some calling tonight.
So far, none of the dealers I called on SageBrush's list are willing to ship batteries to customers. (ie San Bernadino, Camelback, Olathe Toyota, etc)
Pick up at the counter ONLY.

But maybe you need a trip from SC to CA, balancedms. :)

Useful info. I'll add it to the list.

It will be interesting to find out if these dealerships are willing to price match.

Any idea what does Lucious Garage labor charge for installation of a pack, assuming you pick one up for $2000? Or if you let them source the OEM replacement?

I'm thinking most shops will charge about $300

    Fair question for LG.

I have to say though, that the installation looks pretty straightforward. I found a very nicely done video showing the install. The link is in one of my traction battery threads. I'll probably get in trouble for saying so, but if a person is going to agonize over a couple hundred dollars difference in pack cost, self install would be consistent behavior.

Most shops would have you buy parts through them.
Good point about the self install, sagebrush.

I'll take the Lucious garage total install cost for OEMBatt+ Labor as a bench mark, if we have it.
Although I imagine not too much business yet with the 150000 mile CARB warranty.
Gotta think this is growing the way the failure % seems to be heading up when car age hits 8-10yrs.

My Toyota dealer in CT installed the ReInVolt for me. After I pointed out that the rebuilt batter already had an ECU (Toyota's new battery requires either a separate purchase of an ECU or reuse of the ECU in the old battery), they reduced the installation price to $400. Dave Taylor waived the "core charge" to save me shipping cost so I was able to re-balance 27 of 28 modules for 6 others to use in rebuilds as well as selling the ECU and relays to help another PCer diagnose their HV problem.

$400 to get an aftermarket battery installed at the dealer is a pretty good price, actually.

It pays to have a continuing relationship with a good local service organization (yes there are some good Toyota dealerships). Just remember, "Trust but verify" - RR
