Our new 2014 Prius Three has the backup camera, but the camera grid guidelines are not present. Does anyone know if there is a way to "turn on" the camera grid guidelines?

AFAIK, there are no gridlines, but it sure would make the camera more useful. Fortunately, I don't back up that often where I'd need them for precision.

sorry, no grid lines, but with practice, you can learn to back unto within a few inches of an object without hitting it.

On my setup, the grid lines are generated by the camera. My camera is a $20 China special and it was was connected to the OEM radio

    calgary,
I don't know what the wiring is on a 2007. It is a basic camera with a 2 wires for 12V, ground and a yellow RCA plug for the
video. I followed the instructions for installing a camera on a Gen 3 non-nav with touch screen. The gen 3 HU supplies 6.5V
for camera power. I needed to build a regulator to convert the 6.5V to 3.3V. If the Gen 2 has the same camera setup, then
the camera will not just plug in.

I have mounted two additional car cameras on my Prius. They have a jumper wire which can be snipped to disable parking lines. From what I understand, it's fairly easy to mount an additional backup camera by tapping into the signal wires, or you could install a switch to select between the two.

Yes, we were equally disappointed that our back up camera has no grid lines! It pretty much makes the camera only good to see if something is in the way, but sure does not help backing up into a space. IMHO, its like having paid for a wasted option that Toyota left half finished! Hey Toyota, how about a simple update to fix this???(y)

The camera works fine once you get used to it. You can clearly see objects right up to the bumper, and the wide-angle lens lets you see about 170 degrees; in both directions.

There are a number of good YouTube videos that show almost everything to install a camera.
Unfortunately most of the videos show the Priuses that have the factory navigation system installed already.
Mine is a Canadian model with no navigation:(

Yes, but have you ever used a car with a back up camera with the grid lines? Our previous 2013 Dodge Dart was our first ever car to have a back up camera, along with grid lines, and even yellow and red grid lines, (located at the bottom of the U), so as you backed in, you were cautioned with the yellow line that you were close, and the red line was you are 6" away from hitting it! The side grid lines, (like the sides of a U), allowed you to visually see where your car would be, as you backed up, and allowed you perfect alinement in the center of the parking space, AS you were backing into it, as you could SEE where you were heading by the indicating lines. So those lines, actually allowed you to project your alinement, and allowed you to correct as you went. Thus, making the back up camera a "backing tool" and not just a camera like we have on the Pri.

I find looking at the Pri "camera", without guidelines, WHILE BACKING-- it just confuses me, and it is useless, except for the last foot or two, useful only to reference how far back- to go, and thats the only "help" it offers. (Sure it helps knowing your not running over a toddler too). But without grid lines, for me, its like I quickly check the back up camera display for kids, then you ignore it, and use the Pri's side mirrors for alinement, while backing, only looking at the back up camera display, for the final foot. Guidelines allow you to USE that back up camera, the whole way, ignoring your side mirrors, as the camera becomes your PRIMARY back up TOOL! It also gives you more safety, as for me, that moment my eyes leave the back up camera screen, to use the side mirror, something COULD come in behind the car, and I would not see it in the mirror as I backed up. Not so, if your eyes can just stay on the screen,,, and the grid-lines - back up TOOL! Like I said, Toyota needs to finish the job, and give us the stinking grid lines!

Is there somewhere we could call, or write to get Toyota to consider giving us the grid lines update? Maybe if enough of us let them KNOW we wanted them, they would give us the update? I would even Pay $100 for them if they were available!!!

The grid lines in my camera don't move. They just show you how close you are getting to something. So the really don't help you
park, but show you when you are getting close to an object that is behind you.

How did you get grid--lines in your camera? Is your back up camera aftermarket and not stock?

If the lines extend back in the field of view behind the car in a U they still show you your projected alignment, and proximity to the side lines of a parking space, allowing you to back in, knowing where you will end up,--> soon.

    Beachnut,
My camera is a $20 special from China, not stock. A friend of mine has a Leaf and his grid lines move when he turns the
steering wheel. That is what I was talking about when I said my grid lines don't move.
