Rear wheel bearing replacement

    Well, I got them apart. I soaked the backside of everything with penetrant a bunch of times. I heated the backing plate up around the hub with a torch for 10 minutes. Then I just pounded on the hub with a hammer, holding the whole assembly in place with a pair of vice grips via the backing plate. Eventually the hub looked like a mangled mess, but came loose.

    I love how these "high-tech" cars are old enough to be getting the shade tree/sledgehammer/torch treatment. It is starting to sound a lot more like the jeep forums I frequent. My kind of place.

    A couple of undocumented procedures:

    • After cleaning out road-gunk, use a medium, flat inserted to free the socket lock.
    • Top bolts are 17 mm and bottom pair are 12 mm
