I used this app along with the BAFX ODB-II scan tool and it worked as promised. It was easy to turn off the backup beep and to configure one press to unlock all doors and more.
This is the reader / scan tool I got, it got a lot of great reviews

So, because members were saying they would have paid $20 for the app you decided to charge $20 for it??
$20 for an android app is fortunately rare!!

I'm not at all related to the developer, but I will say that an app with all the unique functionality of this one, with such a user friendly interface is also rare. If it was easy to do, there would be 50 other guys selling knockoff apps for a buck.

Also keep in mind, this is not a Prius-specific app. I've used it on my VW and Audi as well.

Still a $20 app seems excessive. Unless it got you discount on the device too.

Nothing seen mentioned about being a introductory price untill after members remarked they would gladly have paid $20 for the app. Then it is only an introductory price of $10 with the new price being doubled.

Don't worry, we didn't raise the price just because we saw a couple of comments from people saying they'd pay more. The initial price was definitely introductory/experimental, and when we introduced the new (more mature) version, we decided to change it. Lots of microeconomics factors at play, but basically it's about what it's worth to our customers, as well as what it costs us to develop it. It may change again in the future; pricing is a dynamic concept.

Yes, it's expensive compared to the average app out there, but it's extremely cheap compared to the average automotive tool out there (or compared to going to the dealer each time you want to change something). And also, the average app out there is... well... not very good. I personally think we've built a solid app with a pronounced emphasis on user interface/ease of use, featuring unique functionality that people need and like. Literally unique - as in, no other app can do it.

Except for the last sentence, all of the above is my personal opinion. You don't have to agree with it. It comes down to deciding for yourself whether the app offers something that's worth its price to you personally. For some people the answer is yes, for some it's no.

^^^it was the thought of being pushed out the door of the airplane by a roled-up piece paper that had me chuckling. I was in fact beat over the head whilst flying an airplane by a very frustrated flight instructor who was trying to drill something into my thick head, so being pushed out by a legal writ did not seem that far-fetched!

the reason there is no iOS app is, because iphone and bluetooth obd devices dont communicate. to use obd with iphone you would need to buy a special adapter. and i think adding an app to ios cost more to the company than it does to add it to android?

This app was the first time I've ever paid more than $.99 for an app... it was worth that annoying backup beep.

Unfortunately, we can't give any discounts - you missed the introductory pricing by a few months. But thanks for your purchase and we hope you find the app useful.

Actually, development of the iOS version of Carista is officially starting this coming week. It will be using WiFi-based ELM327 adapters because iOS does not allow standard data communication over Bluetooth. I'll keep this thread updated with our progress. We'll definitely need some testers when the time comes.

Great to hear, thanks for your purchase.

It's been six months since you wrote this, and since then not only have you not implemented this feature, but have doubled the price of the app. Here's some free advice: don't be a shyster.

Simply providing functionality in an app that another person may misuse does not produce vicarious liability. You don't have a legal duty to control the activities of people who use your app. There are potential legitimate reasons why disabling the belt chime might be appropriate or even necessary, and your personal opinion about it is glib. The chime does not only activate when someone is sitting in the seat, but rather when any amount of weight is sensed. In the case of there being cargo in the seat rather than a person, the chime could be argued to be a dangerous distraction.

That's all beside the point, though. The dealership will turn it off for you if you ask them to. If they're comfortable with the legal and safety ramifications, you saying you aren't is disingenuous.

Moreover, you're implying that a person won't use a seatbelt unless the car nags them to do so. I think any adult with a Prius has already made that decision, and the chime isn't going to make them change their mind. So you equating the chime being on to seatbelts saving lives has no logical rigor.

Actually, I did consult with a lawyer and the lawyer said it's fine, as long as we provide a disclaimer. So we did. The current beta-test version of Carista allows you to disable the seat belt warning. It's still in beta, but it's coming out as a release version within a couple of weeks. You can already try it yourself here: Beta-Testing | Carista OBD2 - Vehicle Diagnostics and Customization

I wasn't just blabbing on or giving a fake excuse.

Maybe in the future. Not sure yet. The cheap Chinese Bluetooth modules are causing lots of grief for some Android users, so the solution might be to use WiFi devices. But this is not yet on our plan for any specific release, so I'm not committing to having it.

What would be your reason to prefer that over the Bluetooth version? Maybe the fact that the same device can be used on both Android and iOS? Just trying to get a sense of what people think about using WiFi ELM327 devices with Android.

Yes, to option to use IOS if so desired. Also, I would think wifi would be more stable over the bluetooth and give more flexibility. Does the ELM-327 wifi operate in an 'ad-hoc' mode or other? If the device could connect to a hotspot and then in theory you could access it from anywhere. Also, live data streaming online should be possible.
All kinds of potential there for a product.

I can't wait for the iOS version.
So is it safe to start ordering an ELM327?
I want to get ready for some beta testing.
There will be beta testing, right?

    Thanks,
    Alan
