Damn, you are having rotten luck lately. I'd be very gun shy of having anything else done. How do you trust anyone after all that crap? Is there a shop out there that guaranty's their work from start to whatever time after the install? You got me wondering now as I will have to have my new car clear wrapped and windows tinted next spring. If it gets screwed up, damn, I don't know what I'd have to do next.

Don't get too bummed out about the car. You will find someone or a shop that does a 100% perfect job and stands 100% behind their work. It just sucks you have gotten run thru the wringer so far :(

Lesson learned is have the shop provide both the parts and the labor. That way they are 100% responsible for the work. When you provide the film like I did, then you are SOL if they do a lousy job since they won't warranty anything.

Good advice. I know the feeling from getting soaked on a deal  It's even harder to have to tell the wife about it

Get-r-done and tell us how it went round two :p It sounds like you got it figured out now and there will be no more half assed work done. Still, that is a ton of cash to be playing around with. Frustrating...

Nope, no one ever figured it out. Then again, I cannot say that I put a lot of effort into fixing the problem.

What about the hood paint? My thought: just bite the bullet and have it repainted? Never been a fan of hood bras...

My hood would occasionally not pop up after I pulled the release cable until the latch parts wore a bit. I would have to pull it up or smack the nose of the car in front of the hood. It will help if you lubricate the latch with white lithium grease or whatever other lubricant you prefer. If the latch is dry (not lubricated) it will also on its own cause the hood to not pop up. From what you describe, it is doubtful that you have a problem with the release cable.

Bringing up an old thread. This is happening to our 3rd gen also.. Latch is fine and when I hold it open and pound on the hood, it pops up.

What part of the latch should I put grease on?

I have a 2008 Prius that I just bought. It has 97k miles on it and it runs fine. I tried to pop the hood today to check the oil and air filter and the hood did not "pop." I had my wife pull the lever in the car while I pulled up on the hood itself, and the hood popped open. I noticed one of the 2 rubber hood supports in the front of the engine compartment was "screwed" all the way down. I screwed both of the supports up until they were at a maximum height. The hood latch works fine, for now.

Mine occasionally would stick down as well. It is the front rubber seal, sticking to the hood. I just applied a thin layer of grease to the front seal. Best is silicone grease, but something like "lubriplate" also works. Just use very little. Apply and wipe off with a finger. Problem solved.
