    *sigh*

After 10,000 trolls one tends to be quick to dismiss erroneous posts as rehashed drivel from poorly researched media sources. 9 times out of 10 you can pinpoint where the poster got their information from. Hence my reference to Bjorn. If you want to take that as an insult I cannot stop you. I wrongly assumed because you drove a Prius and you were on this forum that you could take a mild ribbing. I apologize if I was wrong. :)

I'm not sure what you are trying to say with that graphic. I suggest going back to my original post with the link to FuelEconomy.gov. There you can type in your zip code and the year/make/model of the plug in vehicle you are interested in to see how it compares to other non-plug in cars. You may indeed live in an area where the Prius is cleaner. I don't, however. :)

You are a bit too focused on no reality based info. It's all well and good.
But the electric car falls short of measuring up to what is going on in this country and the world.
In someways you may be better off in California, you are still on the grid. If I lived in a populated area like you did, I would not own a car, unless you need it for your business . Still think you are way overboard about electric cars.
Maybe one day, so for now hush the hype, it will come.

Sagebrush, it's not old farts, remember I own a Prius.
I'm just a more realistic person of the current situation with cars in this country, it will change and it is.
But not everyone is buying the plug in cars just yet.
They are still pollution coming from power plants they plug into.
One f**king day there will be more wind and solar to power the electric car, until then, we are all waiting.
Be a dick, it's your own ignorance.

    Apparently. ;)

I'm good, my friend. Still clean of that nasty disease and I'm on more councils and chambers than I can keep track of. Rode 16 miles of trail today on my mountain bike. This time I did it without the Wranglers and ranch boots. lol We really need to be Facebook friends. You'd love the pictures. :p

The question of whether it is environmentally smart to operate a Volt (*EV) in CA is complicated, but I think it fair to say the Prius and Volt are about even. To back up the assertion, I have posted in other threads links to CA government websites that outline NG use in CA, as well as studies that look at marginal emissions. Keep in mind that in these debates I represent the "anti-EV" stance.

There are of course other considerations. Buying less oil is a good [tm] thing; the $7500 subsidy is not. I personally fall on the anti-subsidy side of cars OR oil, and think the money would be much better spent upgrading the national electric grid to facilitate clean energy development; but compared to the cars that 97% of the population buy, the Volt is a better choice.

I think we just see things differently because for me the future is here in Cali. I've lost count of how many times I've sat at an intersection with 3-4 other plug-in electrics. Tesla's are a dime a dozen. The Leaf, Volt and CMAX/Fusion Energi are everywhere as is the PIP. I even see a Fiat 500e or Spark EV at least a few times a week. I don't live in a "mass-transit" type of area. Everything is too darned spread out for buses to be a viable option. Besides, I work in a rural area most of the time which is why I needed the gasoline backup. I can't afford the only 200+mile BEV yet. :)

My views are balanced by my city-folk friends and their needs as well as those of my rural friends.

Thanks for your reply, at least you were more coming to the table of understanding the dynamics of what autos in this country are up against. It's not a win win for plug in cars yet, I'm a big fan , but can't buy the current credits.
    Hopefully it will come.

Thank you for that note, it is wonderful news. I have wondered for a long time why your pulmonary lobectomy left you so debilitated and I have felt bad since I told you before the surgery that you would not miss it too much. Sounds like you just needed to eat and get off your butt :p

I respect that, the main thing this country and people driving PIP AND ELECTRIC CARS, we can't say we are saving the world until we utilize the sun the wind and the water. That way we are not depending on a outdated power source for all our electric needs.

Agreed. I never say that I'm saving the world by driving any vehicle. Hell I plant more trees and sequester more carbon than most people and I still know better than to think I'm better than the next person. lol

Nah, it's still bad. I just power through it anyway. Now that I lead hikes for Kaiser Permanente I have to grit my teeth and push on so the 70yr olds on the trail don't embarass me too much. Hahaha. BTW, I was chosen for on of their success stories thing so I'll link you to the video once it's up on their website. :) PriusChat was there for me too!

I don't claim to be saving the world, just dirtying it up much slower.

BTW, some of us are already using mostly water and wind and sun. My utility's most recent fuel mix report shows 90% water, 4+% nuclear, 4-% wind, and less than 1% coal.

On top of that, my particular house is now 65% solar, collected on my own property, with an aimpoint of hitting 100% within a couple years. And a rapidly growing number of others around here are doing the same.

    • Good for you, you are doing your part.
    • The main point here , it's more about the PIP AND THE ELECTRIC CARS,
    • The source for what is powering them , is very toxic in our electrical grid.
    • Sure power company's are trying, but they have a long way to go.
    • Respect the west coast for being more innovated .
    • Seems Califorinia had to learn the hard way with their big electrical failures in the past.

Poor Bert. He was excited to tell us he moved from a Prius to a Volt only to have his thread hijacked by those who now want to argue about just how green he really is. My take is he's still a lot greener than most people out there, so he's still doing his part even if the volt is not quite as green as he may think it is. It is a fallacy that EV is always greener and I think that's the only point that needed to be made. The rest of the discussion seems to be an agree-to-disagree type proposition that has been argued before and will probably be argued again. :)

Bert, congrats on your new Volt.
