I have learned lot of techniques within first 12k miles and now I know how I can get 62 mpg overall...My last fillup was 6.60 gals which ran 415 miles that. that tells me If I really wait until the tank gets empty, definitely around 600 miles :) I admit you have to drive like your are old (but thats the right way to drive) and ignore any angry faces. At the end of the day I feel lot better when I find out how much I have saved or how much I could waste by not driving properly.

Better still, get 'stuck behind' slow traffic. As long as you're not the 'head of the train,' no one cares as they stomp on their accelerators to pass the leader. Fortunately, there are lots of opportunities in ordinary traffic so enjoy. <GRINS>

This was done after the recall. My mileage actually improved after the uploadfromtaptalk1407099791627.jpg recall. Stretched it as much as possible because I was running a tank of Regane before my oil change. Calculated 58.5 MPG. All secondary road drving. Note the average speed.

I would like to join the 600 mile club. I just filled up today with 600.9 miles and my hand calculated mpg was 60.3 and the HSI mpg was 63.1. I didn't do a whole lot of hypermiling and my ace in the hole was pure gas. My tires are the stock goodyear assurance with 44F/42R. Stock wheels. My gas light started blinking at 576 miles and it said I had a range of 0 miles at 597 miles. Temperatures ranged from 55 to 95, over 4 days. It was usually in the mid 80s when I drove. I didnt drive on this tank in the rain and it was mostly highway miles. 2014-09-26 16.19.28.jpg 2014-09-26 16.19.33.jpg

This morning i mindlessly refilled at 957km (598miles) and definitely could have gone another 100km with the last pip blinking. I always thought 600miles was too easy and didn't bother as i thought this thread would be dead. I guess next time (after winter as it's getting cold here up north), i will definitely take a pic.

I do everything not to piss those behind me either, even go to PWR for up to 5 seconds from stop lights to keep up with the flow. Then i fight myself and bring it down to the eco ICE band area even if not fully to speed and wait for it to continue accelerating from there on. I only hypermile as much as i can when i'm alone on the road. I find it easy to P&G in moderate to heavy traffic in shorter bursts. It's not that different with how I normally drive in ICE only cars. I also SHM when speeds and flow is more predictable.

The only thing that's affecting my mpg is the lower temps as i had to P&G my heaters once in a while. I've blocked 75% of my lower grills now. This morning is my 2nd tank full and it went to 4.0l/100km (59mpg), as compared to my 62.2mpg on my 1st tank at warmer temp. Those are calculated fuelly numbers. My trip computer seems within the acceptable 5% optimistic only, i think this is due to to my tire treads being well worn.

Edited: Sorry i realized this was rather a rambling post. My point was:

Yes 600mile is very doable. My 2nd tank was only 59mpg (as compared to my 1st which was 62.2mpg) and i was less than 2 miles shy of making it. I forgot to mention i drove for a while with the last PIP blinking but knew i could have driven another 60miles before empty. Also we don't even need to piss those behind us to make this club.

Woooohoooo!!! Count me in!!! I did this in high 80's - low 90's weather. Tires: Crappy Primewell Valera Touring Tires (don't judge they came on the car when I bought it) pumped to 44 psi. I hardly ever hit the highway. This is mostly 95% moderate traffic with plenty of traffic lights. I try to use the electric motors to get me up to speed (usually 10-12 mph). I never go over the speed limit. I try to stay with the lower traffic so I can glide as much as possible. I use the cruise control as mush as possible. I also have a mod done where I have an additional fan cooling the traction battery.

My last tank was 671 miles. Then I checked my records, and my worst was a 518 mile tank which took 8.3 gallons to fill.

For some reason, it seems a lot harder for you guys to get 600 mile tanks. Why is that?

HV Miles only (not total miles for the PiP). My highest HV miles was 556, but only 8.75 gallons went in. I don't know if anyone has ran out of gas in the Plug-in, so I don't know how many more gallons I have until actually empty, nor what happens when we run out (if we can still use EV miles to get to a gas station). One of these days I'll go for it on a good tank.

It's in my sig Doug.... used Classic (not Prius C) 2010 Prius w solar and moonroof, and crappy non LRR snow tires set at 44psi all around. Yes, snows during summer... because that's what it came with and winters too near to swap it out. So I'm trying to wear this out by the end of winter so i can get proper tires next year. Btw, check out the 800 mile club thread. There are enough contributors there to shame us mere mortals.

Forgot to mention I've blocked my grills 75% lower 50%upper now, as recommended in the stickies by Ken @Japan based on the temp's we've been getting here in Canada.

Thanks Robert, i truly need that. I'm also planning to get Michelin ES next year. Since it seems like that tire gives a 5% bump efficiency over regular LRR tires, I'm dreaming (hallucinating?) it will mean at least 8% bump for me (lol)...enough i hope to wanna go for the 800 once i get it (if i do make the 700 club this weekend first lol).

Oh well, guess I'll have to settle for the 600 mile as i didn't make 700 by 10.5 miles. I ran out of fuel while going up an encline in 1 degree (above freezing temp) so my ICE wouldn't even turn off and glide. No problem tho, as i brought an extra can of gas just in case i fail (...which i did). BTW, i am totally aware of the potential dangers of running out of fuel.

Unfortunately it's getting too cold now so my next attempt will be next summer. Anyway here's the pic of my HSI (1103.2km = 689.5miles).

^^^good try! You were a lot closer to 700 than I was!
Do any gas brands in Ontario have non-ethanol gas?
My 600-mile tank used non-ethanol gas from a no-name station in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, and it APPEARED to help by 2-4 mpg as we drove East to,Pennnsylvania on the toll roads. May try same trick when we swing by Chicago again, but 700 mile tank on that route is hard as the last 100 miles are in the mountains on the Pennsylvania turnpike. Good luck on your next attempt!

Come to think of it, there are Robert (according to Ethanol-free gas stations in the U.S. and Canada). I will try refuelling there when i try again next summer, hopefully with proper LRR tires also.

At 105K miles (and 3+ years), I finally achieved a 600 mile tank; this was my first ever tank at the indicated 60.0MPG. My manual calculation for this tank was 58.5MPG. I had the inverter recall performed earlier this year and the Michelin Energy Saver A/S tires have 47,000 miles on them. This tank was Costco (10% Ethanol) gas. Current oil in the crankcase is Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0W20.

I am on the list ... but that was my previous Prius Gen3

I made 600+ miles last summer but did not post it... so here it is the first nice weather tank in 2015.... IMG00101-20150504-2033.jpg

The calculated mpg for this tank was 58.7 mpg. I filled up with 10.298 so perhaps I had at least .5 gallon in the tank for another 25-30 miles but why risk it :)
