If this is in the wrong subforum, please forgive me Moderators
Ive always liked the idea of installing the body side moldings onto my Prius. It might provide some protection against door dings, I dont know... but I like the way it looks.

...which is GOOD because now I REALLY have to make myself like it  Over the summer, I was hauling a utility trailer with our Ford Escape and was backing it up. My Prius was off to the side. I got distracted by the STUPID Escapes backup beeping alarm stupid thing that has 1 bad sensor and beeps frantically every time you put it in reverse so I was trying to shut it off when all of a sudden - BOOM!! - I backed up into my OWN car. :cautious:

I should be mad but at least it was my OWN car. I dont have to pay anybody's insurance deductible or deal with an irate neighbor. So I was actually relieved. Bummed that it happened, for sure... but relieved nonetheless.

So anyways, I start getting repair quotes. Its already starting to rust and even though the picture is vague, it actually creased the fender and the door. Im NOT claiming this on my insurance. Toyota dealer was $1800. They are bananas. Every other bump shop wants anywhere from $506- $620 to fix it.

I go to a bump shop yesterday and talk to them for a while about my budget and goals of this repair, and the write-up adjuster comes outside and says "why fix it if you plan on getting a new Volt in a year or two? Just put body side molding over it!" What a genius!! I had never thought about that.

I went on ebay the body side moldings only come in 7' sections. I need 7.6'. And Im going to have it painted to match the Prius. However, Ive never done this before and need to make sure Im buying the "Right" kind of body side molding that would look as close to factory as possible. I realize Gen 2's didnt get molding in the US from the factory. I just want it to look legit. Also I have no idea what width of trim I should buy.

Has anybody added body side molding to their cars, and could you give me some detailed advice pleasssee??

Extending onto the fender will require that you cut and chamfer it, right?
Have you checked the PriusChat store (I haven't).

    Yeah nothing for Gen2.

And as far as cutting and chamfering it, the body shop offered to paint it to match & install it for me. I suppose they'd be doing that.

What the...... how did you find that?!?! Ive been searching all over the web the past 24 hours!! lol.

That might be precisely what Im looking for (y) and for that, I thank thee.

In the meantime, would it look weird to have the BSM end on the fender? Normally I only see it along the doors.

I think it would be OK,

You know add a little bling. :)

Oh, how I found it was google "custom sized" versus just bodyside molding.

Ok heres another thing - would it look weird on my Driftwood Pearl Prius to have that trim in black? Or is color matched the way to go?

Hchu1 - any pics? I want to make sure before I pull the trigger on this.

My alternative is paying $506 to have both panels fixed and painted  Which still seems steep to me. That looks like a $300 fix to me, but hey.... I dont run the body shop.

So I just got off the phone with that place that sells the body molding....they dont paint to match Toyota's paint codes, just the colors they have listed.

HCHU- did you order yours already painted? Or did you order un-painted ones and had them painted?

The picture you pulled up in your second post is what I got. I hope I didn't give the impression that I had the extended part into the fender.

Looking at the color codes, 4Q2 is a Toyota paint code. Its called "Desert Sand". Im Driftwood Pearl. I gotta imagine its close.

No you didnt. Im more interested in how you matched the color, than the size.

It was Prius specific color and molding. As you typically see as "OEM" on online sellers. I've had it on my '06 since about 6 months after getting the car. Don't get a car without putting molding on.

Buy the new color matched body molding from Toyota online. The fender part, just remove the hybrid emblem on the fender and lower it on both sides....to where the scratch is at. that should cover it.

Is the emblem just a stick-on?

Yes, just heat it up with a blow dryer and use some floss and pull it off
