Has anyone been able to verify this 89681-47041 Computer, Power Mana is even a part used in the 2012 Prius plugin?
I have found this part exist on multiple online genuine Toyota sales sites but I have not been able to find this part listed in the 2012 plugin parts catalogs.

I would love to get my hands on a 2012 plugin prius parts catalog. Can I maybe go to another Toyota dealer, one that I trust, and ask them:
    1. What is the part number of the thing that *IS* covered by the warranty? (The hybrid AKA power management ECU)?
    2. Give them the part number of the thing I got, what is it, how is it different and what does it do?

    Current status:
Toyota Corp is investigating. I'm afraid this may consist of calling the dealer and asking them, which would explain why it is taking so long. The dealer doesn't do well on returning phone calls, either to customers or to Toyota. (They already have something like 1.5 stars average on Yelp, wish I knew that before I got towed).

Rogerv, I will try contacting CARB's enforcement department to see if they can help me. I am waiting to hear from Toyota corporate again first, because between coming up to speed on a brand new job and taking care of the kids, I have limited time I can invest into figuring out this problem.

@IMkenNY, would a failure of the body control computer cause the car to lose power (drivetrain power) while on the highway driving at highway speeds? I'm afraid I don't remember if the car had power steering / brakes while I coasted to the shoulder, but all warning lights were on and once parked, turning the car off resulted in the car staying off.

If that was the failure (12 v power management) then would it be possible that the hazard lights, power windows, and power locks would still work?

I'm not set on the dealer being wrong here. It's just that they seem so incompetent and refuse to communicate often or clearly, so I just want to understand exactly what went wrong with my car and what was the part that was replaced. The nice to have of the part being under warranty or not is secondary, although of course after being treated way subpar for my Toyota standards, and being almost $900 poorer, I wouldn't mind that outcome at all.

P.S. When I stopped by the visit the car they also mentioned that they could not get the hybrid battery to charge. I didn't know what to think about that -- but I was happy that they were at least trying. I had requested that they charge the battery and let me know what happened after they insisted on reprogramming my key to see if that fixed it.

I agreed to that experiment even though I explained to the service rep why I didn't think it could be the problem (failure of the key would not cause the original problem, loss of power while driving). I said I'd be happy to pay for it if it fixed the car, but that I really didn't want to pay for it if it didn't fix the problem. It was a compromise since I couldn't get them to give up on the idea. To give the awful dealer credit where credit is due, they kept their word and did not charge me for that failed experiment.

Here is a link to a dealer online parts catalog: http://www.toyotapartscheap.com/

Keyword search "power mana" shows a power management module which is $522.74 (part #11) and part number search for part # 8968147041 (the item they told you was replaced) brings up "power mana" at same exact cost.

This is clearly not the body control module which Toyota uses the same name in its parts catalog.

I now believe this power mana 8968147041 is indeed what Toyota was referring to in its warranty book when it spells out it covering the "Hybrid control module (power management control module" for 8 years, 100,000 miles.

As someone mentioned earlier ,a dishonest service writer can make far more profit by not putting it through Toyota warranty.

It is fixed, bisco, thank goodness for that.
The thread continues because I'm trying to understand what this part is that needed to be replaced.
Because the dealer was awful I am not surprised that the service rep couldn't tell me anything useful.
I *was* surprised that Toyota Corporate is still "researching" this issue more than a week later. Really?
Ah well, at least they answer the phone, return calls, and of course, best of all, agreed to pay 75% of the replacement cost for this part.
