Red triangle, red car + exclamation, no ready, CEL, won't fire up

    Background story.

    So I picked up a project prius that had a blown head gasket ICE and a dead HV battery.

    Before it was running for a bit (with TONS of steam dumping out the tail pipe). After it got dropped off in the garage the ICE wouldn't fire up anymore and the engine wouldn't even start.

    It was giving me on the dash:
    Red triangle of doom
    VSC
    Check Engine

    On the MFD:
    "Problem" with yellow exclamation
    Red car with red exclamation

    I just recently replaced the (ICE) motor with a junk yard motor.

    Since then, I removed the HV battery out of my working prius to test the junkyard motor now that it is installed.

    It is still giving me those errors and the engine isn't firing up. I know for a fact that the HV battery works. I tried to pull codes using my little Torque app and it isn't giving me any fault codes stored in the ECU.

    Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

    you need a mini vci to read the codes. maybe a bad inverter converter.

    If you are serious about working on this Prius with so many problems, you will need Mini VCI. There are many ECUs, for example hybrid vehicle, engine, traction battery, skid control, transmission control, body, SRS, air conditioning amplifier, immobilizer, power control, gateway - to name some of the more prominent.

    Given the warning lights/icons that you reported, at minimum the hybrid vehicle, engine, and skid control ECUs have logged DTC.

    Yes. You will also need a Windows XP or Windows 7, 32 bit OS laptop to run the Mini VCI (Toyota Techstream) software and display the results.

    Did you put the hv battery interlock switch back properly? Pivet up 90 degrees and you have to push it down to lock it. If it's not locked, car won't start

    I'm a straight up idiot savant. You were right, it was the HV battery plug!

    I put it in and latched but I didn't push the latch down after.

    I'm proud to say that it has NO codes showing up now and that the boneyard motor is purring. Thanks!
