...we could do a survey or thread to try to figure out who is getting the 50% off deals, but I agree this case seems to be a longer shot. But without knowing who else got the 50% deals (and we've heard quite a few stories) it's hard to say.

My thinking is it's people in CARB states close to 100k miles, and the only reason they don't have CARB coverage is due to Toyota disqualification rules. Also maybe people a few miles off warranty.

I have never understood warranties that stop at x miles. To me, the goodwill gestures of part payment are implicit graduated warranties that also gain the company customer satisfaction.

Hmm, very interesting. No wonder they charged me $650 for an oil change on the first (and last) time I ever got my Prius serviced at the dealer. Grr :(

At 156,000 it is out of warranty to the dealer. Only Toyota Regional can extend it.

Follow up to my original posting. I talked to the general manager in San Bruno and explained my situation. He was quite nice and said the thought that he would look into it. Said he was new to California and not been the manager there very long and not sure of the CA rules, thought the rules might have changed and supported what the original worker had said that maybe the 10 yr 150K was only from 2010, but told me he would look into it. Got back to me later today to say that my car did fall under the 10 yr 150K, and one of his technicians had to contact the Field Representative for another matter so also added my question if they would consider some "good will" gesture. He said the reply he got back from The Toyota Field Representative was that since they extended the warranty from the 8r to 10yr they would not support any other changes.
Do you think I should still contact the Regional office and try again? (not sure if the Toyota Field representative was from the Regional or the National)

yes you should call Toyota HQ yourself. Tell them the dealer that diagnose the car and the service rep's name. They will most likely contact him. Ask for a goodwill warranty and see where this goes.

...sounds like they are helping...keep in mind around $3200 is the about best you can do without good will help from Toyota. We (laymen) here are sort of recommending Toyota replacement batt, which could possbly be had for ~$2000 on a DIY basis or $3200 is best price for shop-installed at Lucious garage.

Yes, but not for long, because they're moving to Texas.

Sigh, so far called the Customer contact number, talked to a person that seem very much to be working from a call center. Asked twice if she was the person to speak to about warranty questions and she insisted yes. I told her that I wanted to confirm that the Prius battery was under the 10 yr/150K warranty. So she started to look up the answer and then asked me if I had a Prius, or a Prius Hybrid (not a good sign). After she said it was only a 8 yr/100k, but never asked what state it was registered under. I then asked to speak to someone who deals fully with warranty issues so she transferred me to the Extra Care dept. However, when they answered, they said they were the Financial department. However they said they could connect me to someone that could help me, which again transferred to another person in the Financial dept. That person Randy, said I need to talk to some one in the Toyota Motor Corporation, which they transferred me again, but I asked what was the phone number and it ended up being the first number I originally called..... Oh, yes and was on hold with the first person and the last transfer for about 20 min the first time and after 15 min the second time. I gave up.
Any suggestions to get through and talk to the right person? I can email them, but I would think I would have had better luck speaking directly to someone, but as of now, I am not so sure.

Just an update with my battery. Thank you everyone for the tips and suggestions. It helped tremendously. I talked to HQ and was able to get them to cover the whole battery, just had to pay for labor. They were very nice and supportive. Just be careful that dealerships charge different prices for labor, San Bruno with the diagnostic was almost 300 more than Burlingame Toyota. Very surprised so be careful with the dealerships. HQ was super nice once I got through. Thanks again all :)

Congrats. Did it take an entire month to get the result you wanted? Nancy Fein was the right person to talk to?

It took about two full weeks to get everything resolved. Got Nancy's admin who said that she was not quite the right person, but had someone contact me who did help me get things worked out. Thank you for your help.
