I do not think that gets into the synthetic oil bottle.

Not all chemicals "intentionally synthesized for a purpose of lubrication" are suitable for your car, as any trip to your local drug store's 'Family Planning' aisle will quickly reveal.
I personally don't think it matters very much. Most of the devotees of designer lubricants trade out their cars before the 250,000 mile mark anyway.
Having said that, I use dino (5w30) for the trucks and synthetic for the cars and I keep a 5,000-ish mile change periodicity.
Frankly, I've never understood the logic of saving a buck or two per quart for an oil change in a $25,000 car.....but that's me being me.
If I 'only' get 300,000 miles instead of 450,000 miles out of my car?
It's almost guaranteed that it's not going to be from a lubrication based engine failure.

The only reason that I don't willingly allow a dealership to touch one of my cars can be found about 23,452 times in this very forum, so I do all of the maintenance and repair work that my humble tools and technical ability will allow.
There are simply too many "my dealer did me dirty" stories to justify my having to pay for an oil change only to have to take out the ramps and wrenches to make sure that they did it right.

    YMMV..... :D

Are you saying the production process and facilities to make synthetic oil do not use any fossil fuel based energy? No electricity to power equipment, etc.?

I do not believe I said that. What I think I said was that no dino oil gets in the bottle of synthetic oil. Further, I believe that was the question asked.

You seem upset that civilization exists and synthetic oil molecules are not made by hand by unicorns that fart rainbows. So far as I know, that is some other discussion for some other forum.

Thanks, Lester, I will do that.

EDIT: Even though he didn't offer energy usage stats for production plants, etc., my take away is that everything about synthetics appears to be a win, from not using petroleum to lower energy consumption in the manufacturing process. Thanks again Lester for the answer I was looking for. :)

True, I was watching a recent episode of top gear (US version) and tanner foust replaced his oil in an older honda with of those lubricants. The engine locked up shortly after.

Not to the uneducated eye. But you could say that about virtually anything you buy.
