2006 Prius and iPhone 6

Is the phone also charging, could be the Hello/hey siri function ?

 

Well, if it's any encouragement, I have the exact same car (2006) and did the exact same phone transition (4S -> 6) and both my old and new phones have worked perfectly with the car.

First, what version of iOS are you on? I am on 8.0.2, but it was also OK on 8.0.0. (Skipped 8.0.1). iOS8 has other issues, but I digress.... :-/

It sounds to me like it's one of your apps that is opening the Bluetooth connection in the background. I would suggest the following troubleshooting steps;

1. Make sure all your apps are quit and closed
2. Try doing a Reset on the settings and re-pair
3. Do a backup & restore with iTunes.

To be honest, I really have no idea. As far as I know, the 2nd Gen Prius only supports the Bluetooth headset/car profile, so I may be completely off base that an app may be causing it, however that it surely one thing that would differ between two identical phones, so logically it COULD be a factor. And it is quick a risk-free to simply shut down any running apps, thus that was recommendation #1.

If your phone is pairing fine now, then I wouldn't touch anything unless the issue comes back. Don't rock the boat... LOL.

As a completely side note, what is driving me crazy is that Apple seems to have a serious bug in iOS8 with their "Instant Hotspot". I also have an iPad Air on the latest iOS like my phone (8.0.2) - as does my wife - and neither of us can get the Instant Hotspot to work. Our iPhone 6's now show up as a separate 'Personal Hotspot' showing the LTE signal and battery life, but whenever either of us try to connect to our iPads to our phones, we get "Remote Hotspot Failure - unable to start personal hotspot on <phone name>". Googling this shows we are not alone, and I have tried all the solutions on the web (reset settings, reboot, keychain settings, etc.) but to no avail. We both upgraded from 4S phones prior to this, and I have a feeling there is something in iCloud that didn't go right during the device upgrade. But so far Apple has not seemed to offer a fix.

Worst part is, if I want to use hotspot now, since my phone does not show up as a traditional wifi signal, I have to choose "Other", then type in the SSID, choose WPA2 and type the password.... EVERYTIME. It doesn't remember the wifi signal, I guess because there is an Instant Hotspot - which doesn't work. ARGH. So, ironically, the "Instant" feature has inadvertently made the process far more tedious. Thanks Apple.

Slight sidetrack: I'm having a different issue with my 2007 Prius and the iPhone 6+.

Do you guys have any problems voice dialing via Siri when the phone is connected to Prius Bluetooth? When I try, Siri starts to make a call, but ultimately fails before it even rings on the other end.

 

I fixed mine with the same problem by pulling the piece of crap out. I put in a new Pioneer SPH DA 120 app radio 4 with Apple carplay. Awesome setup and with the right hardware all pretty much plug and play.
