How bad is the 2013 v Factory NAV system?

I have the V Three, which I guess is the standard in dash map. Works fine from what I have experienced. Is there nowhere to get update info on this standard accessory?

 

I just took the Prius v to the dealer for the 20,000 mile service. While I was there I got the Navigation maps updated. I was tired of the maps showing me driving through empty farmlands because 2 year old roads were not on the map. The maps are now 20130716. They were 20110502, original installation on my 2013 Prius.
Turns out this was a waste of $169. The "new" maps still don't have a major road I was expecting to be there. I called Toyota Care and they told me the "next version would be released at the end of December and maybe the dealer could work something out so I wouldn't have to pay again." Would have been nice if the dealer told me that before I bought the update.

Summary: the Toyota navigation is overpriced and the maps are years out of date the day you buy the car. The maps are always years behind Garmin and the Toyota nav system is horrible to use. This is the first car I had with a factor nav system. I will never make that mistake again.

 

I agree. We have 2 vehicles with Nav built in. The system in our Platinum Aramada is much better than the Toyota system for updated maps and correct navigation, but they just can't touch Google Maps on a smart phone. Always as up to date as you can get and no extra charges for keeping it that way. I would never pay extra just to get a Nav system built in again.

 

If anyone is thinking about updating your Prius maps based on the information contained on lexusnavigation.com: DON"T. The updates available to the Lexus owners are not the same as what is available for Toyotas. I just went through this. I researched the Gen 7 v. 14 maps that were available to Lexus owners. I expected the Lexus and Toyota map updates to be the same. I got the most recent map update installed on my Prius and found that it was about a year older than the current Lexus update.

My map update did not include a number of new roads and developments that were on the Lexus update.

There is no way to know what you are getting in the Toyota update. It's like buying a new computer and finding Windows 98 is the operating system!

I talked to the dealer and was told "Lexus and Toyota are different and have different suppliers" too bad for you.

Don't waste your money on a map update.
