    That doesn't always work.

    Coming up on a stop sing with a stopped vehicle on the right at 10 mph, at about 15 feet from the intersection, the car suddenly came out in front of my vehicle.

    I slammed on the brakes, but I still contacted the car at about 3 mph in the rear quarter.

    The driver drove off. I had it all caught on my video dash cam and filed a report with the police with the driver's plate number. I still have not been contacted by the police. It's a low priority no injury accident.

    My father hung up his drivers license without a mark on it ever. The only accident was while it was parked on the street in the snow. I use the WAZE app. Getting notifications of accidents, object on the road ahead, speed traps, and Traffic. I guarantee my airbags will end up unused, if I give the car to my daughter, and I will they will be replaced.

    Agreed, sometimes you can't avoid an accident-
    I've been hit 2x by drunk drivers since 1978... when you're sitting at a light waiting to go and someone just plows into you cause they couldn't make the turn- there's absolutely nothing you can do about it.

    FWIW- the SafeCar.gov VIN lookup tool is working again (for now):
    Pull in H1 content dynamically | Safercar.gov | NHTSA

    I just checked the government website mentioned - both my Prii , 2005 and 2010 show no recalls. I'm in Georgia. Does it mean Prius don't use Takata airbag actuator?

    It only applies to Takata airbags "Hecho en Mexico" and put in US assembled cars. For Toyota, it was those put in the now shuttered GM-Toyota NUMMI plant in California.

    The building in which the NUMMI plant was housed, NOW makes Teslas.

    Could you recommend a camera for my car? I would like front and rear view. Thanks a lot

    That's great. You can save money by not buying car insurance.

    This one did the job;

    It even recorded the face of the driver in the car that ran the stop sign.

    I have this one in the rear;

    This one also works;

    I bought the second one with the screen closer on the driver's side, but I really like the one with the screen on the passenger side better. The screen on the driver side is a distraction. I had to turn it off on the "screen saver" mode after one minute.

    The ABEO allows you to remove the standard sd card without removing the mirror from the mount.

    Both works, but I'm sold on the $89 ABEO. I paid $100, last year. Well worth it.

    I bought the same ABEO HDVR-150 ($89 at amazon) that Rude person's uses- it works quite well.
    Just check the dimensions before ordering though, it's pretty large.

    Ummmm... Bra...

    I have been in two accidents in the last three years.

    The first one I was on the freeway in slow traffic during a rain, and a car slammed into me from behind with enough force to cause $7000 of damage to the car, I suffered some damage to my neck... that driver was insured. I was lucky because I stood on the brakes and only bumped the tire on the tailgate of the car in front of me.

    The second accident was when I was in front at the stoplight near my house, a pedestrian was crossing in front of me and the guy in the car next to me was watching her right along with me... just as she gets past us and onto the other side of the street, I was hit from behind... this time the three cars behind me took the majority of the impact from the uninsured drunk foreign national in an unregistered sedan... the accident still caused $6500 of damage to my car, and now my shoulders will never be the same. I was lucky that there were no cars in front of me at this intersection, as I was knocked over 120 feet into and passed the intersection.

    You can be as law abiding and careful as you can, and still have some azzwipe ruin your ride because they either didn't care about traffic laws, or were to intoxicated to remember how to operate a vehicle.

    I received a notice for my 2003 Honda Pilot two months ago, and have been told by my local dealer that they are still waiting for the replacement parts. No suggestions other than to continue waiting. o_O

    i hear you, we love our time in cali, but i was scared to death on the highways. now my 94 year old father has been rear ended 4 times in the last 5 years, so, it's never his fault. but i believe what is actually happening is, he doesn't see things until the last second, then slams on the brakes. granted, people should be awake and keep a safe distance back, but we all know that isn't going to happen. you remind me, i did get rear ended at a stop light 15 or 20 years ago. 50 mph road, and i could hear the guys screeching brakes for what seemed like an eternity. luckily no bodily injuries.

    ^ When my 87yo mother moved back to NY from NC (where she still regularly drove) getting a NY drivers license wasn't even an option.
    As soon as she saw how people drive around here nowadays she's said glad she doesn't drive any longer.

    She asked me last night if my Volt is part of the airbag recall (it isn't) - that's the car I usually drive her around in...:eek:

    judging by the way this recall is going, i wouldn't be surprised to see more models pop up in the future.

    Agreed- I'm betting our 2003 Honda CRV is going to be included in the Passenger Side Airbag recall soon.
    It's already on the (May 2011) recall list for the driver side airbag inflator - it's going to the dealership next Monday for that. I wish they would do both and just get it over with already.

    We're getting another 3 Series BMW for our other daughter next month- my wife stopped by the shop where it's presently being held for us and got the VIN off it. Looked it up last night- yup... it's on the recall list two. So now we have two BMW's on the Passenger Side Airbag recall list in addition to the Honda... :mad:

    Good thing we have the Volt and 1998 Expedition to drive around in meantime.... :rolleyes:

    Does the rearview mirror type clip onto the rear view mirror? Also where do you plug it in. Where does the rear view one mount? Thanks

    The Abeo one has clips that are spring loaded, It's really worth the extra money. I've had this one for over a year. It still works as well as the day I installed it.

    The E-France uses vinyl rubber band like elastics that stretch over hooks. Time will tell how long they will last.

    Both mount fine on my Prius"v," which has the same windshield, visors and rear view mirror as the Gen III Prius.

    The back camera mounts with a suction cup to the rear window.

    Both run to the 12 volt cigarette lighter like power outlet. They come on automatically when the car is powered up and turn off, when the you turn off the car.

    The cable on the front slips pass the top of the visors and easily slips under the door molding, under the glove box and to the outlet.

    If anything happens to the cheaper E-France, I'd get another Abeo one. That is probably the best one.
