So I bought a prius with 17inch prius plus performance rims and I noticed there is a lot more road noise than would be normal for a car. Especially when I accelerate to highway speeds and I feel it maybe because the rims are too big and the tires too skinny so I'm thinking about just buying the 15inch wheels that it came with again just to reduce the road noise inside the car. Does anybody have any advice whether or not it's worth it or if there is just always a lot of road noise in a prius any advice would be appreciated thanks.

What type/brand of tire are you running? Miles on car? How's the tire tread condition?

There will always be more noise with the 17" tire vs. the equivalent 15" tire in the Prius. Fuel economy takes a dive too. But before you go making an investment in new wheels tires, see if you can swap wheels with someone near you for a day or less.

I complained about road noise too initially and could feel all the imperfections on the pavement. Got used to it after a year of owning the car with 17 inch rims. In fact, I bought another set of 17 inch rims and put winter tires on those!

My friend's cars ride a lot quieter.. but blah.... there's always a tradeoff with something. In your case, at least you got better handling and better looking set of rims!
