Absolutely initial quality is one of those nasty things people use to sell reports. It isn't really important unless initial quality is really bad, and that is very few cars. The fisker karma comes to mind.

Reliability is different than owner satisfaction. Both the prius and volt score high in both reliability and owner satisfaction.

I have no doubt the prius scores higher in reliability, this is almost always true of a third generation car versus a first.

The volt does seem to score higher when it comes to user satisfaction though. The tesla model S seems to score the highest here, although some new owners seem a little pissed that they bought theirs right before the D (faster awd) came out.

Yep, I like Alex's reviews, he also reviews audio systems in the cars, too.

Let's not forget the ad at the end of the World Series. The GM dealer talking about tech and "stuff" in their product line. This "stuff" must be included in the Volt 2.0.

There's the difference between expectations & audience that keeps getting overlooked.

That huge gap from enthusiast to typical consumer is a very big deal.

    Who.

I sure hope so because the flower people and nice person-faced monsters in the Prius commercials scared me. I'd rather they just say stuff. :p

LOL! I'd say the above also applied (when) Chevy ran their limited Volt ads showing owners. They looked very clueless talking about the "stuff" in their Volt.

I remember seeing one of those commercials. Apparently the people who took part in those videos weren't told it would be used in a commercial. I don't think it worked too well, judging from the lack of sales until GM started to slash the price on them, along with the enticing lease offers.

Shame they didn't show it off more, promoting its handling and drive compared to other cars, especially the prius, while selling the admittedly limited ev range (have the Volt driver unplug in his garage, then drive past several gas stations while non-GM SUV's and trucks pull into them), and especially the gas engine aspect (no range anxiety, while driving by a Leaf that's being towed on the road in a remote area). Hmm, maybe I should apply for their marketing team lol.

I think they're trying a different approach this time, hence the teaser information we're getting now to get people to talk about it amongst their friends and family, along with internet people. Judging by how long this thread is getting now, I'd have to say it's working rather well. Of course, talking about it, and buying them are two different things, so hopefully the price comes down. All those features with an MSRP of under $30k may very well attract a lot of customers, especially if they can promote the Volt's strong points.

If nothing else, at least they're attempting to promote it a little bit this time. Of course, let's see what happens in the next year.

Now if only Toyota would do the same with their next gen prius...

We have heard from gm that most people still don't understand the volt and that includes dealers. Remember in 2011 it was a political punching bag as the obama car. One of the chevy dealers in congress, who hates obama even had congressional looks into it, ans spent a great deal of time on cable news stations bashing the car. The gen II should be able to shed its bagage, and hopefully volt leaf and prius commercials will stop being so bad.

The guy in charge at the time is credited with the really bad chevy runs deep. He was fired, not for being bad, but for cooking internal books, and now is running a company in california that builds hydrogen fueling stations. I can't say current management is good, but its not as bad as that guy.

This is the tesla strategy. Its free advertising, but I think they did it too early. It is hurting current volt sales. Internet campaigns can be more effective than tv ads for these cars too.

Oh toyota did some leaks but the next gen prius is delayed until the end of next year. Anything more hurt current prius sales, which already are disapointing this year. If I were toyota I would keep mum about the gen IV until summer.

PR for the next gen phv could help though as could roll out to at least a few more states.

Wow, hadn't seen this one before. Now I understand why you had to have one of the first models!

I won't complain anymore about GM's poor marketing efforts.

I wonder how much of owner satisfaction is "it is mine and I paid extra for it so I must rate it good to reinforce my self image as the selector of all great things". (In economics called "the endowment effect")

I'd look at several years on satisfaction figures to see if they feel burned as opposed to still reinforcing their purchasing decision. Dropping scores mean they have come to reality as opposed to basking in the warm afterglow of a new purchase.

On the other hand, there is the 360 HP Infiniti Q50 Hybrid which starts at $45,000 and came out starting in model year 2014.

It's owner satisfaction score is 65 which is lower than the Prius Plugin and Honda Civic Hybrid but one step above the Honda Insight which got 63.

I think the same thing applies to any vehicle or major purchase. People want to feel justified. That's why you'll find so many fan boys on forums. Prius included. ;)

yes VERY hot . . . . the brunette chick was OK too ~

As Jerry Seinfeld used to say,
"not that there's anything wrong with that " yea . . . other than the creepy factor. I think you could of done a better job for Volt f8L - breaking out your Zoolander.

In January 2009, I visited the Detroit Autoshow and remember all the attractive presenters in the hall of metal 'art'. Hardly any engineering content, I visited the Fisker booth and asked one of the booth-duty ladies about their pedestrian warning sound.

The first one did not know what I was talking about but her senior who had a slight, French-Canadian accent said,"Oh, the synthetic roar." But in the noise, I heard ". . . synthetic whore" and was briefly confused at this strangely accurate reply by ladies in costumes similar to the dancers. Then my mind sorted out what she said and realized neither would understand my technical question.
